Why do people get offended when they are chastised for making a bigoted or racist comment and deny being a bigot/racist/homophobe?

As for getting offended, they simply don't think they are what they are being accused of.

Most people take offense when they are accused of something they do not believe they are.

As for me, people can accuse me of whatever, I simply don't care... as getting offended is a simple choice and I choose to not get offended what someone else thinks of me.

If you act racist you are racist, if you don't you aren't, it's clear as day who is and isn't one. That said things do get taken out of context sometimes so you shouldn't take everything at face value
