Why do people get offended if you clear a gun they hand you?

So, I'm originally from the inner city, Philly. I grew up around a lot of gun violence. Witnessed multiple murders. So at a young age, I illegally carried. I had no problem fighting, I been on both sides of an ass whooping multiple times. Not everybody has that mindset. Lots of people are scared to fight, so they grab a gun. And even the people who ARE willing to fight can't box no bullets, so they get guns too. I wasn't an asshole kid, but I was raised in the worst part where there are broad day shootings frequently. So you damn right I ironed up.

I now live in a small rural town. Most gun owners here do so legally. So I got more chances to openly play with guns, go to ranges, etc. The one thing I noticed, EVEN with ex military, is when they hand you a weapon, and you clear it, they take offense. I'm not sure if they take it as an insult to their competency or not, but it's not.

I can watch you clear a weapon, but once you hand it to me I clear it again. Why is that so insulting?
