The economy Trump dealt with wasn't suffering from Covid and was inherited from the president before him, Obama. The economy Biden inherited was overshadowed by Covid and was inherited from Trump.
And, you can't blame the economy on ANY sitting president. There are factors completely out of his control that involve Congress, our Capitalist, open-market system, the stock market and interest rates. Presidents do not control the Fed, their interest rate setting, Capitalism or private businesses.
We have 2.2 percent inflation, currently, whereas at the same time last year, when we were JUSTcoming out of Covid-time, we had 6% inflation. Everything went up because there were closed businesses, a worker shortage and wages rose to lure workers.
Prices rise during a crisis and we HAD one. If you're comparing prices and wages to 2019, it is unlikely that those prices will ever return. And think about the federal minimum wage. It is STILL 7.25 per hour. That's $15,080 per year.
The federal minimum wage was instituted in the 1930s to pay people a wage that would support them and their families. Tell me what family can live on 15K a year? What home can be bought on 15K? What minimum wage job INCLUDES full healthcare benefits?
Does the president control oil and gas prices? He does not. He does not run OPEC, or domestic production.
The economy is incredibly complicated. A president can influence it by infrastructure bills that could create jobs and there's trickle out to other industries. You need to be a finance, and economics major and read Adam Smith to even have a clue about how all these cogs turn the big wheel.
Presidents can effect policies that can effect the economy. Trump was a pro business candidate. He set the tone for investment and innovation. People wanted to build factories here e Because Trump looked like he would cut regulations and corporate taxes. Joe Biden gets elected and immediately does just the opposite. However, changing corporate tax rates so that corporations do pay their fair share has unfortunate affects: corporations pass on the tax hikes to consumers. Unless Congress passes laws to PREVENT this, making them pay the taxes they actually owe is a no-win.

There is something to be said for encouraging business, but not by letting business pay so little taxes it taxes consumers. Basic driver's ed should not cost teens EXTRA. 90% of adults need cars to get to and from work. Until our infrastructure operates like Euro infrastructure, meaning REAL urban transit that takes people everywhere for low costs, we need training in how to get around using vehicles that are accessible.

@juliaanita Actually, the reason the Keystone XL pipeline was impacting gas prices is because of how oil commodity futures are valued. It's based on future supply. The Keystone XL pipeline dramatically lowered oil prices because it was forecasted to dramatically lower the cost of moving oil.

The massive government spending on "Covid relief" was started by Trump, not Biden, and wasn't the root of the problem, anyway- that would've done damage under any circumstances, but it would've been much less than we're experiencing had the mass production of money not been accompanied by the almost total cessation of the production of wealth. It's the state and local governments that bear the lion's share of the blame for what we're seeing, not the Presidency.
