What part does the Electoral college play in determining who gets elected president?

I'm still trying to figure out why it's called a college!
From what I understand, and it's still not completely clear to me to be able to adequately explain it but, the votes are tallied and the winner in each district gets one electoral vote. The number of districts in each state that gets a vote for those people is tallied and the one that has the most electoral votes wins the state they all come from. That decides who won the vote in each state. Once the voting is done and the votes tallied via electoral votes, the person that won the most states gets the job.
Basically, it's set up so that states with fewer people living in them get as much of a fair shake as states with millions of people living in them. I don't know of a better way to explain it but, I hated it, too, when I first heard about how it decides who wins as opposed to just getting votes. Once it was explained to me, it made sense. I just don't know how to explain that to you.

It plays a large part. We have been forced to put up with Republican pieces of trash as President, even though the Democrat won the popular vote. Al Gore and Hillary Clinton both won the popular vote by a significant amount, but lost due to an old and outdated electoral college.
We elect every other office with a popular vote. The fact the outdated electoral college still exists is absurd.

They ensure that the people cannot actually elect the leader of their choice. If voters were to defy all odds and actually elect someone who would meaningfully disrupt the status quo, the electoral college can and will override the popular vote and make sure one of the usual cronies takes office. It literally serves no other purpose.

It is a process where each state gets a number of electoral votes. The number of votes depends on how many representatives the state has in the House which is dependent on population. It keeps the highly populated states from having all thr power

It is the system that our forefathers devised and they did it for a reason. The politicians and their strategists try to concentrate on campaigning in states with a lot of electoral votes. Most states have it set up that whoever gets the popular vote in the state gets all the electoral votes some states can split it up.
The big issue with Trump is the same as last time, mail in ballots and ballot harvesting. Democrats are conspiring to get illegal aliens to vote. Lara Trump who runs the RNC had said that they are going to run their own ballot harvesting operation. She also said the RNC has hired 10,000 lawyers. I am not sure they are looking in the right places. There are illegals being housed in thousands of hotels all over the country. There should be surveillance in those areas to watch for fraud. Once the invalid mail in ballots end up in the same drop box with everyone else's, there is no way to tell them apartment this system is done on purpose so fraud cannot be proven.

Since there has been a lot of people moving in the past four years they don't need to watch California or New York since people moved out of those states. However, Texas and Florida probably have the biggest populations now since so many people moved to those two states.

The electoral college is supposed to vote the way the majority of people voted in their state. The electoral college is supposed to prevent states like California, and New York from being the only states that determine the president due to their population.

Then they need to watch out for Texas and Florida since everyone and their grandmother moved to those two states.
They probably don't have to worry anymore about California because a lot of people moved out and moved to Texas and Florida.
