The show's Scooby-Doo franchise started in the late 60's so I would not expect something like this to come out of it. They never made these type of changes back then, so why are they choosing to do it now?

Is this done in the name of woke culture or not?

I saw this horsesh*t leaked a while ago. The woke garbage doesn't surprise me anymore. They just do this to piss people off intentionally and hope to get rage clicks and views. It's just corporate trolling, in reality.

Also, she's not "black." She's Indian. As in, Mindy Kaling. It's literally jut Mindy Kaling's short, dumpy, unattractive ass playing Velma. A self-insert character. Oh, and mocking real fans in the trailer itself.

Also, they turned Shaggy into a stereotypical black thug/weed smoker, Daphne is now Asian, Fred is gay, and Scooby Doo won't be in the show whatsoever.

However... This is not the first, second, third, or fourth time they've done this, but FIFTH! In case no one knows, they made Velma Hispanic in the 2021 "Scoob!" movie.

And in the yet to be releases Halloween movie (that parents are boycotting, en masse), they made her a full of dyke/femcel, stalking a black supervillain.

So yeah, they've been trying to f*ck up Scooby Doo for a WHILE. I've never once liked Scooby Doo or found it the least bit interesting (aside from that 1999 Blair Witch project parody on Cartoon Network), but this is just appalling how badly they're f*cking Velma for a non-existent woke audience.

Velma is now an INDIAN nerd stereotype. Ah, the magic of diversity and inclusion, brought to you by studio executives and focus groups that want to give scraps to people of color if it would just save them the effort of trying.

A lot of people like to pretend like these race swaps of established characters are "no big deal," and they probably shouldn't be... It's just that they make it painfully obvious WHY they do it. In fact, I would wager that part of why they do it is to deliberately stir up controversy... which begets media attention... which then begets race politics.

Because backlash to race swaps (especially the ones considered "white washing") isn't exactly a new thing. But when it happens with characters changed into people of color, they can simply use this controversy to make a political statement about how racist people are.

There was no good reason to change Velma's race. It's just another way to manufacture racism for attention, much like Jussie Smollett tried to do. But that's my opinion.

I don't actually mind that change all that much, to be honest. We need more black lead characters in mainstream media anyways, ans I just don't get why so many people get butthurt over this.

Then again, there are some places where I don't want the character's race to change, and it's not about the color of their skin, but mores because of the character's backstory and writing. What some people don't understand is that from a film writer's perspective, there are a lot of other secondary factors you have to take into account when you change a character's race and skin color.

Now the whole conspiracies against making Ariel from the little mermaid live action movie black was dumb in a way, but not because people had a problem with how she looked. Moreso because most of us from the 90's wo grew up watching The Little Mermaid have seen Ariel with light skin, blue eyes and red hair. Making her black takes all of that away, and that's why people threw such a hissy fit. Personally, I never liked that movie myself so I really don't care.

Here's another example if anyone here thinks I'm being racist. Two of my most favorite superheroes of all time are Miles Morales' Spider-Man and Cyborg from Teen Titans. And guess what? They're both black males. And if one day they decide to make Miles and/or Victor white males, I'd be pissed. Like reeeeally pissed. It's not because we have a problem with their skin color. It's because we relate to them more to how we remember seeing them growing up, so changing their design, skin color and race not just changes how they look, but also changes everything about them which made them THEM.

In the same way, I also absolutely despised Jason Momoa's iteration of Aquaman and how they made the Fire Nation in the Last Airbender live action movie into Indians. Just poor choices in character designs and just everything.

At the same time with the PCisation of the media, standards have really slipped. The UK used to be the bastion of comedy, I can't recall one decent thing we've produced in the last 10 years. We used to have Father Ted, Red Dwarf, Inbetweeners, amongst others when I was a lad. Some of the best comedy in the world. But now everything has become bland and generic, and of course, we're all terrified of offending each other.
