Putin has never reigned alone, he does serve a group of elite powers as well, and those are not all fanatics of him, there might plenty of fanatics below him but not among the ones he has to serve and respond to

as for the rest of the world, I really do not think the world "leaders" are ready to allow tactical nukes to be an "okay precedent" for conflicts, they all lose with it, not much to gain unless it is for personal and delusional gain

I mean.. Does it really matter? Russia is already going to lose in Ukraine, with or without nukes, and the consequences of using nukes in Ukraine will be more than sufficient to punish them. More specifically, Russia would lose all its good will around the world and be considered an enemy. That lone would ensure their downfall since even China would no longer want to be their friend.

So while you might want to lay on a few more sanctions or whatever to look good for your voters, its not like it will truly matter in the end since it would just be a pinch of dirt ontop of Russias already covered grave.

No, I highly disagree. In my opinion Russia lost this war VEEEERY early on once they failed to capture the capital and reinstate their own puppet government. I am talking like weeks into this war. At this point there is nothing Russia could do that would realistically win them the war outside of actual acts of god.

Russia doesn't want western Ukraine anyway. Victory for them will be keeping the illegally annexed territory. No one thinks they could have occupied the whole country anyway. They've had puppets in Kiev before and may again one day.

What are you talking about? They NEED western Ukraine. It is an existential requirement for Russia to possess a very specific number of locations and two of those 9 are in western Ukraine. As for keeping the occupied territory? The problem with that is its impossible.

They need a way to force the war to end. Holding territory will not accomplish this.

Again, incorrect. Russia has since ancient times been entirely reliant on securing their own borders and to do this they require advantageous terrain. Major rivers, major forests or preferably mountains and seas. This is a problem since the European plains runs straight from France to Moscow meaning every single invading army has a free open route to invade Russia which is why Russia requires Western Ukraine to begin plug that hole in their national border.

Furthermore, Russia is a subscriber of the heartland theory which says whoever holds a certain geographic region which basically includes Russia plus a few other regions that happens to include western Ukraine then becomes the worlds only super power.

This (among other reasons) is why Russia will never give up on western Ukraine.

Russia has not been around since ancient times- it dates back to the Middle Ages. But you're wrong about which border (s) they're worried about- they know they won't get attacked from points further west- it's Central Asia and East Asia they're worried about. East Asia is obviously about China and Central Asia is about Muslim states to the south of Russia.
The route you claim they're worried about has been a graveyard of invaders from points west. But someone in East Asia has a whole of surplus men and whole lot of thirst for raw materials that Russia has.

... What nonsense. Russia is TERRIFIED of NATO AKA their western border not to mention their entire history is filled with European armies marching into Russia with special mentions going to Nazi Germany for causing a major mental scar for Russia as a people.

The eastern border as well as the southern is actually basically dealt with. No invading army will be able to invade them from there under reasonable circumstances but they are still wide open from the west.

And while you can argue that Russia has defeated the armies coming from the west, it has always been a close affair and always been a tragedy for Russia. Its a phyrric victory at best since the reason Russia has survived them is not because they were able to resist but rather that they were willing to endure unspeakable suffering and damage which is not a very good long term strategy.
