+1 yI’ll bite. I don’t have any faith in either side of the aisle at this point, but I can see some simple solutions.
Oil crisis - drill more in the United States. Whatever happened to the keystone pipeline? Why are we so dependent on other countries for what we have available here? All in the name of what, the environment? Give me a break. All these multi millionaire politicians are laughing as they fly their private jets on the daily, they couldn’t care less about the environment.
Inflation - nice work with the stimmy checks government, real helpful pumping trillions into circulation. Let’s keep it going by forgiving another half trillion in student loan debt. This is a tough one to solve, but it starts by putting an end to these excessive handouts. People are killing the fed for jacking up the interest rates, but their hands are tied thanks to how Covid was handled. A string of horrible decisions has consequences, what a concept.
Businesses - Stop it with the ESG and DE&I prioritization. Focus on your core business, and let’s be a meritocracy here. Equal opportunity, but the best person for the job gets it. That’ll help you achieve your business goals and make money.18 Reply- +1 y
There are over 10k unused drilling permits the government has issued. We can't force them to drill as that would be socialism. The issue is there are a limited number of drills and they take a while to build new ones. If anyone took it as a real solution it would be about 5 years before we saw any change. And 10 years for pipelines.
It's mostly supply lines driving inflation. The stimulus checks did bump it up a bit but we knew that it would. The idea was for everyone to pay slightly more in exchange for that bottom 20% or so not getting evicted or starving, resulting in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Democrats have tried to explain it in these terms but get drowned out by bad faith republicans getting more media attention. Anyway no one complained about the inflation caused by the 10 trillion in handouts the Republicans gave to the rich under the Trump assministration, even as we are dealing with it now.
I wouldn't really call ESG a priority so much as a checkbox. The right likes to blather on about it because they dont like it, but not because it is a bad idea. - +1 y
Frigging f off already with keystone pipeline... it's a pipeline not an oil field and all that oil was rerouted. Read this article you ignoramus. I know you're going to say it's fake news but idiots like you don't understand it wouldn't really help. Just freaking read the entire article and challenge yourself to have an open mind. Use some critical thinking man. Oil companies make more money when prices are higher. The pipeline was a pipe dream and wasn't ever going to make a significant diff.
www-cbsnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/.../ - +1 y
@Friendlybro79 Finally, someone who understands the farce of the pipeline. Thanks!
- +1 y
@loveslongnails It's so frustrating dealing with people that just want to use sound bites like keystone pipeline but don't understand how it affects prices and also refuse to believe anyone that disagrees with Trump. The oil companies are contributing huge sums of money into the pockets of politicians in the form of corporate donations, aka legal bribes that fund their campaigns. It's why we can't shift away from oil.. Even if you don't like renewable energy why can't people think forward past themselves and for the future babies they're all trying to save from abortions. They're going to need a viable energy source when oil fields run dry. I guess it doesn't matter if it doesn't affect them right now. We have to start sometime for the future

The problem is such people tend to not genuinely believe their own talking points but are conservative for reasons they aren't in any hurry to admit to (usually some iteration of fear). And what they seek above all is validation through like minded allies holding the line. The talking points are only ever intended as misdirection away from the crippling insecurities that lie beneath. You can argue with the talking points until you are blue in the face, you can win those arguments a million times, but in the end the thing that matters to them isn't something they will have ever discussed. Our natural inclination to get to the bottom of their reasons is the very thing they are resisting because they are ashamed of their reasons. And so they seek anyone who will normalize covering them up. The more infuriating the bullshit the better it acts as a cover. Say something blatantly incorrect and it goes viral with endless retweets and 24 hour news coverage - instead of the shameful things that are actually bothering conservatives getting discussed.
- +1 y
@Friendlybro79 The obvious answer is yes, humans tend to deal only with what's right in front of them or the very foreseeable future. If there were no more oil fields to pump, the oil company magnets would try to control whatever was next.
- +1 y
I believe that's why they're called "talking points" - it gives you something to "talk" about without ever understand what the REAL point is about.

So it leaves many of us independents shacking out head and highly annoyed like always.
Seriously though I wonder how so many people focused on party based politics are even able to stand up and walk at times like this. Because so many Republicans and Democrats are willing to shoot themselves in the foot for their party, you call probably don't have a foot or leg to stand on.

Nope because both sides have to keep this good cop/bad cop game going. Party based politics is all about keeping people divided, distracted and fighting against one another. That why politicians on both sides can engage in insider trading and make good on all the promises they made to their major campaign contributes.
- +1 y
Because they are the good cops at the moment. Also politics is a lot like all these movements claiming acceptance of everyone. There are always asteric in there with a list of terms fallowing it. So they might as well be honest and say we accept everyone that agrees to our terms. But since that does not sound as nice as preaching about accepting everyone, they bury those terms in a boatload jargon.
What some people refuse to realize is that both sides of the the political isle are pulling the exact same thing. So the left has their list of terms and so does the right. People are quick to play the blame game and paint their chosen side as hero's because it keeps them from accepting that their chosen side is just as dirty as the other. - +1 y
This is extreme for you, in the evaluation sense. Supplies dwindled as there was not enough labor to produce the steady stream prior to Covid. Other financial factors were in play as well. Armchair analysts like to forget that too, that economies do not expand constantly ad infinitum. This round of inflation was waiting to rear its head for YEARS as the economic gap between the haves, and have-nots continued to grow unchecked, eliminating more and more the working middle class's purchasing power. This is PRECISELY why "trickle-down economics" (Reaganomics) was bullshit - the middle-class and its purchasing power DRIVES economies, NOT the richest 3% - they just reap the benefits.

Republicans are just nasty which forces democrats to be nasty back. If someone grabs your purse and you grab it back, any observer who wanted to paint the purse snatcher in a positive light could just say "both sides are grabbing the purse." It may be a 100th order derivative to show the money belongs to us but it is still a straightforward result to show that it is exclusively democrats who want to spend any of it on us and republicans who want to steal it all for themselves.
- +1 y
It's all bullshit anyway. D does this, R does that. What's the truth? Regardless of what "side" wins out, we the people will get the short stick.
- +1 y
The problem is only one side needs to be that bad in order for both sides to appear that way, as the very first thing the bad side will do is try to make the other side look just as bad. And that's exactly what has happened. There are defiantely some corrupt democrats but there are plenty that take their job seriously. Whereas if you are a republican that refuses to be corrupt, you get kicked out of the party.

Just like a typical republican't, he gave all the money to the rich thinking they would do anything then what they did, kept it for themselves and screwed the workers.
Obama was the 2nd best after Clinton. He got healthcare for all the people that could not afford it, and soooooo much more. Coke head bush started a war we had no business being in just because his father failed to do the job he should have.

Democrats were the ones who undercut our energy independence- this fantasy of clean energy that isn't nuclear is nonsense.
Further, Republicans have no incentive to create a detailed plan as they have no way of putting it into action. That's like expecting a sergeant in the military being expected to come up with some grand scheme for winning a war when he's not in power to do so.

You've not said a single original argument; so, why do you think it's the other side who is writing off a list from their cult? You're assuming I like Trump- clearly you listen as well as you do your own thinking, which is to say not at all.
- +1 y
An argument doesn't need to be original if it was never countered in the first place.
Anyway, I don't think democrats are a force for good. I just know republicans are 100% dedicated to giving the rich our money. Because that's what they do every time they get power, and then nothing else. But no one would vote for this so republicans get loud about literally anything to get votes, and have found unthinking anger to be the most effective. This has been going on at least since Reagan. - +1 y
+1 yReal “impartial” poll options you got there.
Anyway whatever plan the Republicans have it has to be better than what the incompetent democrats have been doing for the last 2 years. And yes it IS mostly Biden’s fault inflation and energy prices are out of control.
Biden pushed for trillions of more dollars in unnecessary spending. Biden constrained and severely limited domestic oil drilling. Biden’s asinine pull out of Afghanistan emboldened Vladimir Putin to invade the Ukraine.
When the pandemic ended our economy was supposed to boom NOT f*cking recede. All Biden had to do was not get in the way. Just be a house plant in the Oval Office. But nooo he had to act like a senile version of Bernie Sanders thinking he would establish a legacy like FDR or something and he f*cking sucks at it.
“Never underestimate Joe Biden’s ability to f*ck things up.”

“ Democrats would love to have the problem fixed and haven't been shy about giving republicans credit when they earn it.”
Reading that makes my stomach hurt from laughing. Give me an example of that happening. - +1 y
I will repeat again. Things would of been much better now if Biden just didn’t DO anything. Instead he pushed through the infrastructure bill, the huge oxymoron “the inflation reduction act”, unilaterally relieved $600 in student debt (people who never went to college have to pay more in taxes now), crushed domestic oil production and again i do not believe Putin would of invaded the Ukraine if we didn’t pull out of Afghanistan.
- +1 y
If republicans controlled the house/senate they would of blocked at least half of Biden’s bullshit.

Democrats have repeatedly lauded praise on Liz Cheney for her staunch defense of democracy. I understand the far right fake news has probably told you to think she is some kind of liberal traitor or whatever, but that's specifically to keep you from acknowledging all the praise democrats are showering her with - and as you have demonstrated it worked on you quite as well as they had hoped.
But none of the noise by far right misinfotainment changes the fact that her voting record is probably further right than 90% of the Republicans in congress. - +1 y
If republicans had the house or senate they would have blocked all government function all together. They want the end of democracy in this country so running the government into the ground is exactly the sort of thing they would and will do when they next get power. The fact that you continue to dodge the question of why you believe republicans plan to help the country is being kept secret only tells me you are well aware they have no such plan and are just addicted to the frothing right wing rage and agree we should finish off the country. I suppose that should have been a fourth option.
- +1 y
Liz Cheney? Really? I could give you a long list of Trump’s accomplishments but would you even blink at them? If you read them I will list them. But I know I said the mega trigger word “Trump”. Just hearing that word automatically makes liberals blood pressure skyrocket.
Anyway government does not “fix” the economy. Prívate businesses develop and provide resources to consumers which in turn develops markets, jobs, revenue and growth.
The government does NOT create wealth in itself. It taxes citizens to pay for government agencies and legislation.
I didn’t dodge the question you just missed the entire point. The economy would be fine if government would of just GOT OUT OF THE WAY after the pandemic. Businesses are reopening and consumers are spending again. But nooo the Biden administration just had to spend trillions in build back better insanity of money we don’t have for initiatives most people don’t care about.
Also while I believe global warming is real this is NOT a time to aggressively push ineffective so called renewable energy initiatives. Do you have $80k to buy a Tesla? Also again the Biden administration severely constrained domestic oil production. Now he is trying to negotiate with a brutal dictatorship in Venezuela to get more foreign oil from them. He tried to do a “quid pro quo” of threatening opec to not limit oil production for “at least a month” coincidentally right before midterms. He is releasing more of our strategic oil reserves trying to keep gas prices down because Americans are (rightfully) blaming him for skyrocketing fuel costs.
- +1 y
And gas spikes do NOT just impact what it costs to fill up your tank. It gets factored into shipping and transportation costs of goods and services. That is making food, goods, electronics and everything else skyrocket with inflation.
Again if republicans controlled the house/senate they would of stopped Biden from doing all this insane backward legislation bs in the last 2 years. We need them in to prevent him from f*cking up things even more. - +1 y
“Hate addiction”. Smdh.
You see a 42 year old man. You should be capable of using LOGIC over emotion. You can NOT depend on the government to solve all your problems. That’s been tried before in history and that’s call a centrally planned economy (communism). It never works.
Prívate citizens full an economy by creating businesses for supply and demand. That creates wealth. Again the government does not “create” wealth. It just taxes citizens and regulated civilizations. But private companies are what innovated and provided to consumers. They even provide to the government. Most technologies (even military) were developed by private enterprises.
You can’t tax civilians to create a “well balanced” society. You end constraining businesses and even forcing them to shut down. You sure as hell can’t spend your way out of debt.
The economy can only recover if the government gets out of the God damn way. The Biden administration has done the exact opposite. - +1 y
Speak for yourself. Your the one who created a poll with “damned if you” option A and “damned if you don’t” option B and nothing else for someone who might hurt your feelings even if they logically disagree with you.
It’s one thing if some air headed 22 year old recently brainwashed college female created a poll with answer options like that. Quite another when a man twice her age does it.
When I create polls I at least have an “other” option C or even try to think as devils advocate when it comes to political disagreements. But besides criticizing your poll options I did NOT at any point personally insult you. However I brought up your age because it’s rather incredible that grown man’s POV is still disagreement = hate. You yourself said I was “addicted” to hate for politically disagreeing with you.
That nuts. However not surprising for a leftist but i am less forgiving when an older one does it. Especially if he’s a man.
But your political voting decisions have very real consequences. You could of hated on Trump and republicans all you want. I might dare agree with you about Trump’s often moronic personality. But I have no doubt he wouldn’t fucked up our economy and inflation the way Biden if he was still in office. And it does NOT matter if you are democrat or republican when it comes to the economy/inflation. That impacts EVERYBODY and the harms the working class poor the most (who democrats pay bs lip service to supposedly care about).
Biden was elected for one reason: he wasn’t Trump. But “the grass is greener on the other side” has left our country on a pile of manure. Biden absolutely sucks. - +1 y
Those are the options republicans have presented for us. They could easily provide the third option you seek by giving the details of their plans. Not more lofty goals, but the means to achieve them. But they won't because they want you to choose them without any expectations beyond making you feel better on their terms.
- +1 y
Almost every piece of legislation the Biden administration has pushed through has been bad for the economy, inflation and national security (border crisis). Biden is just not in touch with reality. Not a surprise given his age but he is in a echo chamber of elitist usually radical democrats. It’s easy to not care about inflation when you are already a millionaire. It’s easy to not worry about the economy when you have a guaranteed paying job working in Congress for your term (AOC will never have to go back to bartending). It’s easy to not worry if you are working a sector that is historically insulated from a recession (healthcare, education, etc). The Great Recession of 2008-2009 disproportionately harmed men more than women because worked in more at risk sectors like construction.
The first job of republicans is first to block any more stupid and counterproductive legislation that is making the economy/inflation worse. Their second job is to pass legislation that encourages growth and expansion of enterprise. One way to do that is to quit taxing the hell out of people and “corporations”. Whenever democrats think of “taxing corporations” they immediately think all corporations are like Amazon. No they are NOT. I own a small corporation for side work I do. If you crush businesses with taxes and regulations they can’t afford to hire new employees and expand. - +1 y
Every piece of legislation democrats have put through has been extraordinary good for the economy. This is why Republicans keep showing up to claim credit for projects being funded in their districts despite the fact that they voted against them. They know democrats have done an incredible job. But they also know they have to say otherwise because they also also know no one is stupid enough to vote republican based on merit..

Lol. Prove it over the internet to a guy who has gone out of his way to shonhenis determined to believe the opposite no matter what because it makes him feel better? Alright. First let's ask what would qualify as proof. For example, how was it proven to you that every piece of legislation was bad for the economy? Knowing that productive/infrastructure bills take a couple years to show any effect in life and knowing that, by all metrics we are definitely performing better than every other major country, what exactly passes for proof to you these day? Just whatever ends in "therefore democrats fault lets go Brandon more christian nationalism please" is your litmus test for accuracy? Before I even consider beginning I just want make sure you're aware that's not how logic works.

But in any case, democrats have constantly tried to push credit onto any republican that would take it for the bipartisan infrastructure package. Republicans have been openly rooting for Biden's failure since the instant his victory was announced. McConnell proudly admitted he was 100% focused on stopping the Biden agenda. And he succeeded in stopping the Biden agenda of reigning in gas prices and inflation, cutting our dependence on foreign oil, etc. Why would I bother forcing bothsides narrative when republicans have been openly flaunting their bad faith behavior for 5 decades, indeed pushing it as a selling point because they have conned their base into thinking "triggering the libs" is more important than taking their fucking job seriously. You would all be pissed if a poor person spent so much time sitting on their hands and collecting a paycheck as republican politicians do. But you accept it because you have been told democrats do it too. That's a real shit-for-brain reason to accept it, even if it were true.

The entire economy basically rode on that project, as it would 100% remove dependency to Russia and Saudi Arabia for resources. The domino effect that is all on him and he had the easiest job in the world. What a bum. Bring back the Alaskan Pipeline and watch the money roll in.

SUBSTANTIALLY better? For who? I can’t afford to buy a home. Rent is higher than ever. New vehicles are unaffordable. I’m paying $120 to fill up my gas tank a week. Food is extraordinarily expensive. I’ve had to completely change my spending habits to a pod falling into heavy credit card debt. Crime is out of control. Peoples cars are being stripped in parking lots where I live. People don’t need to be told things are bad by “right wing fake news” when it slaps them in the face every time they leave the house.
- +1 y
For everyone. Inflation is a problem, yes but that's a global problem. You can't pin that on democrats. What you can do is compare us to the rest of the world and we are in a far better position than most of the world because of the efforts of the democrats. Unfortunately it is the case that, and what i was getting at, there is no instant fix for this. Democrats have laid the groundwork for us to build our way out of this problem. In 2-3 years we will have the infrastructure and domestic manufacturing in place such that the global supply collapse will have minimal impact on us. But that assumed we don't let Republicans sabotage it, which they have repeatedly said they will definatwly do. Because they want inflation. Corporations getting more money for less work? That's the entire reason Corporations bought the republican party. Of course they love the idea.
As for crime, democrats included a ton of funding for local police departments but they don't have the power to direct their actions. you'll have to ask your mayor or governor about it the cars being stripped. I will say right wing media pushing everyone to be paranoid and violent probably isn't helpful, though. - +1 y

@aerissa_jade just like the repubelicans are doing with the infrastructure bill? Voting it down, calling it socialism, and then asking for money because they needed money for infrastructure lol?
- +1 y
The problem isn’t what the bill is named. It’s what is actually in it. They like to name omnibus packages something noble then sneak controversial partisan things into it, so if they actually read the bill and vote against it, they look like the bad guy. Both sides have done that for decades.
- +1 y
@DarkWinterNights you def have some partial truth here to your point but remember Republicans also lied and have been fact checked to have lied when talking about this in the infrastructure bill. They aren't held accountable to lies. (No party is to be fair) in this instance they were saying only 5-7% of the bill was going to infrastructure and if I recall lied about weird hidden agendas that just weren't in the actual bill. Basically half of the people still believe that because that's what fox and trump told them even though it was a lie...

Out of curiosity, can you give an example of a time someone complained about democrats but then some bothsides person came in and tried to say "Republicans also.."? I have my problems with churchianity. But they're less disgusting and degenerative than the religions that turn you queer... maybe connect the dots with government and occultism?
Religious historian Rivkah Harris, former Associate Professor of Religion at Northwestern University, states in her book, Gender and Aging in Mesopotamia: The Gilgamesh Epic and Other Ancient Literature, that the goddess Ishtar was also known as Inanna, and her worship was specifically designed to break down all gender distinction and well as socioeconomic distinctions. She writes: “She [Ishtar] shattered all gender and socioeconomic distinctions -- being both a royal queen and simultaneously “the harlot of heaven... And in all this she was the role model for her followers. Among her powers was this from a Sumerian poem: “To turn a man into a woman and a woman into a man are yours, Inanna.” Professor Harris further writes: “In the Descent of Ishtar we are told of some participants in her religious cult: ‘The male prostitutes comb their hair before her…They decorate the napes of their necks with colored bands…They gird themselves with the sword belt…Their right side they adorn with women’s clothing…Their left side they cover with men’s clothing…Their transvestitism simulated the androgyny of Inanna- Ishtar. It was perhaps the inversion of the male/female binary opposition that thereby neutralized this opposition. By emulating their goddess who was both female and male, they shattered the boundary between the sexes. This was seen as a way of rising above the prison of the flesh.” Finally, Harris concludes: “Ishtar is androgynous, marginal, ambiguous…She is betwixt and between… Central to the goddess as paradox is her well-attested psychological and physiological androgyny. Inanna-Ishtar is both female and male … [in one place stating] ‘Though I am a woman I am a noble young man.'" - +1 y

- +1 y
@normalice Does anyone really think that energy independence and domestic manufacturing is going to "fix the [US] economy"? Remember that we are all part of a global economy and becoming more isolated (as you seem to imply) is not going to work.
- +1 y
Yes. Energy is it's own unique problem in that it is parasitic. It doesn't produce anything tangible. It just allows other people to produce. And it is in limited supply. Increasing that supply in one area reduces demand everywhere else. It might hurt the energy industry but again they don't produce anything but fumes so all it will do is make it cheaper. However, it is also true that the Energy industry is owned by some really violent people so once we stop placating them with gobs of free money they might become hostile on the global scale. But that's a whole other thing.
As for domestic manufacturing, the main driver of inflation right now is supply chain issues. Domestic manufacturing minimizes the impact of that for all time. We can still sell the things to the other countries that buy them. The countries that currently do the manufacturing arguably shouldn't have in the first place, because the reason they were moved there is for the cheap labor. Bringing manufacturing jobs back to the US doesn't isolate us, it isolates the countries that allow for cheap labor. - +1 y
@normalice Have you been listening to the experts lately? The supply chain is no longer a problem. The main economic issue now is inflation, caused by overspending by governments around the world, spending money that doesn't exist, until the government creates it.
- +1 y
The supply chain is the reason for inflation. It is not caused by overspending. That's just the narrative the far right fake news has been saying for the last 100 years because they want us to spend our money on them instead of us. To suggest overspending is a problem is to suggest the sole reason people are raising prices is price gouging. But that's not possible if competitors have ample supply, which they don't, because of supply chain issues. Unless you're suggesting competitors are conspiring with each other to keep prices high just because they can, but that's illegal.

@Friendlybro79 I agree the two-party system is terrible, but socialist Democrats are much better than the traditional establishment Democrats and Republicans. Rich people vote for the establishment Democrats like Obama and Biden. And edgy right-wingers vote for trump because they believe in some cultural Marxist conspiracy theories

How many Republicans voted for "Mitt Romney's" healthcare plan? None.
The Democrats didn't "steal" it, they foolishly assumed that putting forward the Republican's own plan from the 1990's (as a counter to genuine universal health care) would get some votes from Republicans. Why didn't Republicans ever put it forward during a Republican administration? - +1 y
Yes and the main way democrats tried to get the teapublicans to vote for it is by pointing out it was pretty much exactly Mitt Romney's plan. But rthe tea party was just taking over republicans and they went on about death panels and opposed it pretty much unanimously. Because they are not serious people. They are pirates dressed up as politicians, here to take our money while they put on whatever show they need to so long as it stops us from stopping them from taking our money..

I realize the bothsides narrative is entertaining but entertaining lies are not helpful to fixing the problem. - +1 y
If you're suggesting capital gains, stock trading, assets, and windfalls are also taxed at 25%, that would be far beyond what any hard-core socialist would ask.
The way the rich are rich right now isn't via income. They just own stuff and then take out loans with basically no interest rate because they own so much that the collateral they put up makes it a zero risk loan to the lender. But loans aren't taxed as income so it's just free money. You can do it too, in fact. All you have to do is first inherit billions worth of property like they did.
Opinion Owner+1 yTax the loans as well, really stick it to them that is communist way no
- +1 y
Taxing loans would be detrimental to startup businesses, though. Sadly, there isn't any "flat" system anyone can come up with that the rich can't exploit. This is why the rich pay meme makers, troll farms, and podcasters so much to convince their audience that they should want a flat tax..
