If you know someone who is/was military personnel, what is it like being around them?
Are there any military or ex-military personnel here on G@G?

Current. Your experience will vary depending on your branch and whether you are active or reserve. Also depends on what you want to do with your time in be it making the mitary a career or using it to further education and gaining additional skills to apply on the civilian side. Currently there is a lot of low morale because of what happened with the COVID vaccine mandate and how the current administration is trying to push social constructs like gender and CRT in a place that should not be a testing ground or implementation when its sole responsibility as an entity is to be able to defend the country and kcik the teeth in of any near peer adversary.
Recruiting numbers are at an all time low.
The biggest enjoyment I had were the guys I have met and served with. Very down to earth, smart, good sense of humor and a lot of love for success and betterment of their fellow comrades.
I'm retired Navy, 22 years active duty. My dad was a Naval Officer for 11 years. My brother was Army and my cousin in the Air Force. My wife's father and grandfather were both in the Navy.
Of all the things I'd say, it was a tight knit family. Instantly, globally, you were accepted and respected by each other.
Although I was only there for a year and a half as part of my required service, I was lucky to end up in a unit full of regulars (people who decided to sign onto the army), and they all treated me well. The units with conscripts as commanders and officers are the WORST. Most of the time anyway.
I do not really keep contact with my old mates anymore, but I still hang a photo frame of us up on my wall. It was given as a gift after my 2 year term was up.
Dont thank me. I was not with The U. S army, I was with the Singapore Armed Forces. I never had to attend to serious casualties, fortunately, My role was more of an anticipatory one. But I did help out with handling my team's equipment, learning how to test and set them up, etc. It was fun seeing how counter-terror ops works, as well as being involved in that training.
Yep my husband and brother in law are currently in. My dad, father in law, brother and other brother in law are all vets. I also live on post so constantly surrounded by the military lifestyle.
And obviously everyone that's in the military are different so some are good and some are bad.

My Dad and I lived by Navy base. They are all driven, tough, and edgy. No PTSD etc
They have two different sides. They can be jovial and nice, but they have really been through stuff. At least thats what they are like here from what I know. Where I served, all paratroopers that I know of are commandos, aka Spec forces. There are people who are not commandos who have attained wings for basic airtrooper courses, but they are not actively involved in paratrooping.
My school CO during Basic Military Training was ex-commando, as were my Platoon commanders. They were retired warrant officers. And they have seen real shit. The two warrant officers were both part of an aircraft hijacking rescue and relief team back in 1992 when there was a situation at Changi Intl Airport. They saved the day. The training they went through though, is nothing short of punishing.
I may know a guy; it depends on what you want to know.
I cannot confirm nor deny I have experience in the corporate military / defense industries. If you have questions about military pay/benefits, I can answer those questions.
I remember several Singaporean Officers who went to the Naval Postgraduate School; they were very good guys.
They went there to get a Master's Degree; I was impressed by their knowledge. Your universities are very tough in Singapore.
I was in the military for about 10 years
I was in 1st battalion 8 marines, infantry platoon
Yes.
