Is there anything worth dying for?

I used to think there were many things worth dying for, but now I know how often good-hearted people are manipulated into giving their lives for vain or even evil causes without realizing it. The more I've considered it, I've basically determined that it's worth RISKING one's own safety to protect any child and perhaps any other innocent person unable to protect himself or herself. But it's not worth dying yourself just to possibly save them because someone dies either way, and their life is worth no more than yours. And there is no circumstance where just GIVING up your life is worthwhile, especially when people who make threats rarely if ever uphold their ends of bargains; they just manipulate.

But I think there are some things worth dying to protect. Dying to protect your spouse or child is worthwhile, but obviously it's better if you survive to continue protecting them. Dying for your own freedom or principals makes sense too since a life lived in bondage is no life anyway. Dying in a war to help oppressed people or something like that is worthwhile in the long-run for our species, but I'm not sure how worthwhile it is for the person who actually dies or their loved ones. Really, I think it's a good guideline to protect yourself and what you love like a tasmanian devil. Anything else isn't worth dying for.

Yes people do all the time. They did doing what they love to do. Even if they are aware of the danger and risk of death. People are sometimes Assassinated for standing for the truth and defending the underdogs.

No. People love saying they would die for their loved ones - that's a nice thought. Real life? We are born alone and we die the same way so what's really worth is living life.

Right now I would die for my wife, were she in danger or something. Bodyguard style, “Nooo…” cough blood. “Don’t forget me. And don’t remarry.”


I feel like a child in danger perhaps would be worth risking life for. Maybe cuz I’m older I feel a child’s life is worth more, has more to live, innocent, or something. So house on fire, I’d like to say I’d risk my neck to get a kid out.
