Why is it a big deal that Democrats took the senate if the Republicans will likely take the house?

I don't know much about politics, but don't bills have to go through the house before they are passed? Therefore the Democrats won't really be able to pass anything? Am I missing something? I would actually consider myself a liberal, so I'm not trying to bash on the Democrats.

Historically, the midterm elections are very kind to the party out of power, especially with an unpopular president. The fact that the democrats were able to largely stem the tide of a red wave was unusual and somewhat impressive. Personally, I prefer Congress to be split. It keeps the crazy on both sides in check.

Don't worry about bashing the dems. There are enough of people who bash poor innocent Republicans, the dems deserves to get a bit too, for the sake of equality.

I agree with anons opinion. Congress should always be split. Its one of the flaws of our Constitution.
