Were the Democrats expected to take the senate, or was it a surprise?

The senate was considered a tossup going into the election. Historically the midterms are kind to the party out of power and the GOP loudly predicted a red wave but polling showed those races to be very tight, which turned out to be accurate. It was only a surprise to those not paying attention. Now we’ll get to hear two more years of voter fraud claims without evidence from them 🙄

Im pretty sure the “red wave,” which then became “red tsunami” was supposed to hit every corner of the political spectrum.
Anything less was a surprise.
