This scenario is not going to happen. Republicans are not going to cut Social Security. At least they won't cut benefits for legitimate recipients. They might want to cut it when it's being abused by people who shouldn't be getting it, but that's a completely different thing.

Social Security has been in trouble for a very long time. That's been known and has been a big political issue for at least 40 years. Politicians have never done anything about it except talk. That's been true with several generations of politicians, whether they are Republican, Democrat, socialist and anything else.

Social Security is going to end up being funded out of the general fund instead of being self-funded like it was intended to be. Politicians have seriously dropped the ball on this issue. Every session of Congress puts it off for the next session of Congress. That pattern has been repeated for at least 40 years.

A few months ago I looked up how much the Social security cost of living increase will be for next year. The answer was 10.5%.

I was under the impression that only people that were disabled and people that had worked were able to get social security. Then I read that some migrants were getting checks from the Social Security Administration. Now if that is true, than they are using tax payers money inappropriately, and it will run out faster.

-Retirement was the only thing that was cut, and the boomers had to pick themselves up by the bootstraps
-The money from the cut actually went to actual Americans and not some random foreign country for just no reason whatsoever

No one will ever cut Social Security, only increase it. They do have to figure out a way to pay for it. One would be, don't give it to people who make over $200,000 a year. The amount of Social Security that goes to the wealthy would pay for the middle and lower classes forever.

I heard New Gingrich talk about social security. He said that if the money you paid into social security was managed by the private sector instead of the government, we'd all retire as millionaires.

I’d be happy. Social security is unsustainable long term and my generation probably will not get 100% of the benefits retirees get today. So why not start that process now?

I fully understand how the nation's budget works... and how economics works... and mathematics and science and engineering.

Let me give you a piece of advice about the real world that, hopefully, will calm you down in life and not make bad decisions:

Money - and problems associated with money - are human constructs. Nature doesn't have money. We invented it. Squirrels and birds and squids and bugs don't worry about their social security because they don't have it and don't need it because they live in reality - Nature's reality - the one free from money.

Cancer? That's a problem.
Global warming? That's a problem.
Can't pay Social Security? Not a real problem. Easily correctable via legislation or printing more money or other economic controls.

Also, let me explain something else.
No human ever will just sit around and let themselves or their family die because the society is constructed to kill them. They will take any action they deem necessary to survive even if that means "breaking the law". This is one reason why revolutions start including the one that ultimately gave you the ability to whine about social security.

However, I can make it even much easier for you: When your generation reaches the point of being the generation most in control of this society, you will make it so you are taken care of and, hopefully, future generations as well.

That said, I want to apologize: As a member of the generation older than you, we failed you.
We failed you because, for 40+ years, the GOP sold us a plan of horseshit that told us to ignore reality because it made us unhappy (and adversely affected the businesses who would have been hurt by the solutions to the problems of reality and those businesses donated to the GOP [*]). And the DEMs are equally incompetent because they don't want to lie to you and thus are never in power to actually fix things.

[*] Example: The fossil fuels industry which has been obstructing green tech and denying global warming for 49 years now. So, the GOP blocked green tech development which was going full bore in the late 1970s. Meanwhile, the DEMs are too busy whining about stupid shit and not being able to communicate with regular folks; so many fundamentals problems and policies the DEMs would advocate to fix these problems are actually matters of national security, but, instead, they speak in abstract terms. It only becomes clear to people decades later when those problems rear their ugly heads and make themselves known.

Anyway, off my soapbox for now.
Bottom line: Don't worry about social security; you will be fine.
