I am not an American but I can predict what will happen: At the very least, Trump and DeSantis will enter into a really dirty fight to win the GOP‘s nomination. Should Pence participate, it would be even worse. The eventual candidate (whoever it is) then joins the presidential election as damaged in the public eye. It will make a Democratic success much more likely.
