ELIZABETH HOLMES HAS been sentenced to just over 11 years in prison for defrauding investors by falsely claiming her technology could detect diseases from a drop of blood.

I'm not sure, that sounds like too much at first blush. Basically... she lied and spent money. Know how many "gold" miners do the same thing..."there's gold down there, were drilling, buy our stock"... and then its BS... it ain't there... it's somewhere else. And they doing go to jail.

Isn't the real issue somewhere else... investors, auditors, scientists?

I reserve judgement since I have put no knowledge into it... but...

As well, now we pay for her to live in jail and feed her... when physically dangerous people are getting out of jail. I don't like that. But our country values $ more than life. Don't pay taxes, do 30 years, etc.. We understand the priority of our govt... human life and security... is not as valued...$ is god!

That's more than you'd get for rape. A little research could have easily told those investors she was full of shit. Fair enough if she was scamming sick people desperate for a cure, I'd say 11 was right. But these people should have had more common sense.

The vast majority of people do not have the education or knowledge to evaluate the validity or reliability of ANY tests, much less medical blood tests.

Kinda both. These kinds of “white collar” crimes are easily excused if you cut the right people in on your profits. She SHOULD do more time, in my opinion. But i wouldn’t have been surprised at all with a slap on the wrist if she’d only gone through the “proper channels”.

Some of these investors are out thousands of dollars. It may have a devastating effect on their lives. what if you lost your retirement account on some scam? You would have to spend the rest of your life chained to a desk. The ripoff artist should get life in prison.

11 years is hard time & a fair punishment why would you feel that's to much time? She was a liar, con artist and went crazy in the process then got exposed. People died trying to help her, she fucked over a lot of people.

Long story short, she started some company that claimed to have some revolutionary way to take blood samples for tests, where they could take like a small drop of your blood rather than a typical vial for a blood test—also that her test was “better” and more comprehensive.

It was all bullshit. And she basically defrauded the investors she had conned for millions.

What’s hilarious is the media at first made her out like this revolutionary scientist, a woman, who was doing groundbreaking research. They helped “sell” her bullshit.
