Why do republicans hate the idea of poor people getting debt relief?

Because it means they are paying for it in the end... plus it shows a bad example of people making bad choices and having the consequences removed.

Anyone who thinks student loan forgiveness is a one time thing if this succeeds, is an idiot... it also punishes responsible people who worked two or three jobs to pay their loans off while lazy people did nothing to focus on them... then get free money.

Now it would be different if it came from Congress, with some sort of reform to prevent the problem again. The forgiveness though does nothing to fix the root problem.

I'm all for debt relieve, IF the tax payer doesn't have to be on the hook for it, so if those student loans were not backed up by the federal government and it was the bank taking the loss, I'm good with that.
