They are sure that they are really in the majority because almost everyone around them feels the same way, and that Mentone County, Texas is "The Real America" even though only ten people live there. They never go to the really "Real America", which is New York and Los Angeles and Chicago and Houston and Dallas and the Bay Area where most people live. It's an accident of history that votes from rural states count more than votes from highly populous states. A bit more in the Electoral College but much, much more in the US Senate.
