Curiosity is what it is- it didn't kill the cat; it just got the cat killed. What you're missing is second half of the phrase: "satisfaction brought it back". Curiosity produces a hunger so strong that seeing it satiated is worth whatever suffering it brings.
Good thing satisfaction was there to bail curiosity out.
