Yes and no? History is definitely not written by the victors but by those who hold the pen. As such, there are plenty of examples in history where the victorious party is cast as evil or swept aside historically to talk about the ones who lost because they happened to be the ones who either wrote the history or it was in the interest of whoever wrote it.

Things are complicated and history is used as a tool by the ambitious far more often than we would like and to the detriment of historical accuracy.

That is all about perspective and its usually the people who writes the story who defines through what perspective we view things as. Be it the crusades or whatever, we have an inherent bias when viewing them through a historical lens when in reality its usually far more simple and complicated at the same time.

I'd agree. Historically people believed the "right" won because God was on their side. It's easy to get men to die if they think their cause is righteous. Now people are less religious we're not constantly at war.
