Considering the lack of research and foresight by federal legislators, and the corruption of self serving politicians and industries, I think federal control over the educational system is a bad idea. It leads to inefficiency. But it also gives the federal government the ability to dictate what gets taught, similar to the government's ability to propagandize by way of mainstream media

I suspect that NCLB creates mediocre students who will be compliant worker bees. It teaches how to memorize force-fed "facts", but not how to think.

If it's what I think it is: giving kids passing grades no matter how little they've learned, it's fucking terrible!! It'd be MUCH better if we gave then teachers that ACTUALLY TAUGHT THEM!! Don't teachers have to pass some kind of test to see if they even CAN teach?

The intentions of the law were good but Congress hasn’t provided adequate funding to help states meet the federal standards. It’s tough to make progress without additional resources. Parts of the law are still worthwhile, making teachers meet qualification standards, for instance, or giving students the option of attending a different school if theirs repeatedly fails to meet testing standards.

I think education should completely be under the control of the government so the policy is a good start. Every student should learn the same things and be pushed to the same potential.

Let's make all the kids as stupid as the stupidest kid in the class. Let's not tailor academics to learning styles. Let's give no motivation to the lagging kid because everyone is going to meet him/her at the botton.

No child left behind almost left me behind… lol. I was in senior year when tjay garbage took effect. They immediately ended the special needs classes I was in and forced me into Main Stream classes. i had been In special education classes my entire schooling life. So I went from basic mathematics to algebra etc. naturally I failed. I graduated by the skin of my teeth. Maybe a good idea. But horrible execution.

That was a way to make the school system look better. Less kids failing and the teachers wanting more money because they were doing such a great job!
If the schools were to concentrate on the 3 R’s. Then at least people would be able to get along on their own better in life!

It means that those kids who are not ready for the next grade they push them through the cookie cutter die until they don't understand how they got to where they are. Kids with learning issue's are pushed into the next and next grade with 50's grades before they know it they have no idea what he's learning. It's just an excuse to force those kids who fall through the cracks have to fight tooth and nail for things in life.

If a child can’t meet the standards, they should be left back. As with every federal education scheme, it’s not helped and only cost us millions.
