How can they not? The US can't keep illegal aliens out, which means they have no way to keep guns out, thus no way to disarm people even if they wanted to. Outlawing guns would make the gun trade far more lucrative, than even the drug trade.
Even if they managed to convince people to give up their guns willingly, they'd merely be victims when someone with a illegal gun attacks them.
Which means, law abiding citizens would be totally defenseless when a gun toting criminal decides to come rape, rob or kill them.
A lot more people would die if guns were outlawed than we have now. As what am I suppose to do while I wait over an hour for police to show up and when a criminal is shooting at me, breaking down my door?
Kindly asking them to wait for the police is not an option.
Police have no legal obligation to protect anyone.
There are changes that should happen, such as no more no knock warrants. Better to just knock at the door and wait, if they are worried suspect could flee through the back, have other officers ready before knocking. As yelling POLICE while kicking down the door isn't understandable.
Someone has to get my attention first before I can understand what they are saying, random yelling is gobbly goo until they have my attention.
They also need better training that says you cannot shoot someone without a weapon pointed at you. Unarmed people or those with guns are not a threat until it is pointed at someone.
Suicide by cop is often something men do when they want to die but can't do it themselves... simply point a empty gun at the police.
This officer did not follow training, cause if training is drop your gun, bang... that is pretty bad training.
We have to keep in mind though, there are many great police forces out there and many terrible ones too. They are not all the same.
They can coexist. We just need some changes…better training for cops, more recruitment within communities so you don’t have all white cops policing minority populations and change civil service protections to give police brass better ability to fire bad apples within their ranks. This defunding nonsense is never going to get us anywhere so you embrace some incremental changes that directly address the problem.

Common sense has gone right out the window on both sides. The left wants to defund out of some sense of punitive retribution and isn’t considering the consequences. The right is perfectly happy with the unequal treatment and resists any attempt at needed reform. I don’t know when compromise became a dirty word but it’s killing our country.
I’d argue “defund” has been overplayed and over analyzed. If you asked lefties what they’d want they’d say de-escalation training and better police hiring practices.

The cop reacted too quickly but you can't totally blame the cop. He should feel remorse for letting his adrenaline get the best of him because literally a second before he saw the guy he heard gunshots.
The cop should be given a job where he doesn't have a gun. He can't handle the position he was given.
Because we have the right to defend ourselves even against the police when our rights are being violated. This includes the police. Imagine if the police could come into your house rip you off your couch and take you to a camp for having Covid. Which is happening in China right now.
