Gun control isn’t about taking guns away, it’s about controlling the guns. The US is the only nation on earth with more guns than people with an average of I think 40 guns per person. This is an insane amount of deadly weaponry to own, even at the private level. That’s enough to arm a police station, especially if it’s a fully automatic weapon that can shoot anywhere between 10 and 50+ rounds in less than a few seconds.


I own a gun, I respect the right to bear arms, but these are weapons, not toys to collect. These are devices capable of containing a small explosion for the purpose of firing a specially made piece of metal out at the speed of sound. These are deadly, there’s a reason a majority of gun-related deaths occur in the home. And that’s not even mentioning America’s new notoriety with kids buying guns for the specific purpose of killing their classmates in school. Regulating these clearly dangerous objects is not a bad thing. Regulation just looks like a concealed carry license with a REQUIRED education and testing that undergoes regular inspections, and maybe one or two models of guns are limited to the use of active duty military officers only because war is the only place we would need them.

I would argue that they are mutually inclusive; opposite sides of the same coin, one might say.
The extremists think we shouldn’t even be allowed to bar convicted violent criminals from owning and carrying firearms.
Even when you consider the slippery slope just beyond that perfectly reasonable measure, you just can’t justify pure anarchy with “but our rights”. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights were written as a foundation for GOVERNMENT. Any argument from which the ultimate conclusion is unchecked mayhem and chaos is inherently unconstitutional. Anyone who suggests otherwise is woefully ignorant or completely full of crap. Liberty and sacrifice are a balancing act. You can’t have one without the other.

Yes, gun ownership and rational laws to make sure we aren't giving guns to idiots or criminals or mentally unstable assholes are not mutually exclusive. Any rational law abiding citizen should support common sense gun controls. Including getting rid of long weapons with large capacity magazines + semi automatic fire capability. You don't need a 20 round magazine to hunt deer. But it's pretty handy for mass shootings.
