i disagree with that. because the government doesn't need gun violence to take control of a nation and do shit that the population doesn't want. we see that pretty much every single legislature period these days.

however i do think that is it smart for a country to have the population armed, cause that's one of the few ways you can have a population that at least has some chance of fending off war invasions. because spreading weapons to the population once an attack has started would be impossible for any government. so this is a smart choice and that's "in the way i read the second amendment" the exact purpose of that amendment.

i think this massively contributes to national security. cause a country trying to invade the usa will think twice about messing with an armed population. if you invade countries like let's say germany today, you won't have a lot of resistance, cause nobody has guns. and the military is decrepit.

He is pushing his own interpretation of the second amendment. It was included in the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution) as pushback to what the British did during the American Resolution, stealing colonists guns to use for themselves.

It has nothing to do with protecting the other amendments. The second amendment could be repealed, and the other amendments would still survive.
