It seems to me that since Trump left the white house, that people care less about things like employment and getting a job. There are plenty of job openings right now. From what some members here say, people want shorter hours and better pay.
People just don't have that giddy up and go anymore. Perhaps this is the new norm.

It's been like that for a long time. I personally think America is gone for good in terms of being a dominate and a glorious country.

America doesn't have any sustainable decent values except freedom and that seems to be attacked now with free speech and getting "canceled" among other stuff.

The problem with a giant melting pot of a country like the U. S. is that it doesn't have an identity and core shared values among its people thus its bound to fail or not being as strong as other homogeneous countries.

If you acclimate people who already don't think they need to earn anything to ways in which their entitlement mentality is economically viable such as free pandemic relief, is anyone here really that dumb that they fail to see how that plays out long term?

Had nothing to do wuth trump, it was the locked downs that made people realize there's more to life then just working and paying bills all day/every month. People are burnt out, they want work to live, not live to work.. they want more free time with their families, travel, do fun hobbies etc. We can't do that cause all we do is just work. Work takes up too much of our day and time, by the time we get to our day off we are tired and don't have the energy nor drive to do the things we love.

Heck on my days off I don't even want to play my switch like I use to cause I'm too tired. Your day off just flies by compared to the days at work that feel like they are dragging. Also yes my job does have shortage cause a lot people quite or call in but it's also cause some businesses are pretending to hire while not really hiring cause they love being able to save money on a low staff. You also have managers who are trying to be to damn picky when they need help or are just terrible at scheduling.

Also people are done with jobs not keeping up with the cost of living and greedy people wanting an entire paycheck just to live somewhere or buy essential needs.

@BlueScorpio I haven't worked for a while, but I am a boomer, so I worked 8+ hours a day & 8 am - 5 pm with an hour for lunch. was my work schedule for 30 years.
I became a single mom after my four year marriage. So, I had to have the little guy to the sitter and still have time to get to work.
Sure, I would have given anything to have shorter hours. On weekends I still had laundry 🧺 to do, weekly grocery shopping, clean my home, etc.
Then it started all over again on Monday. Missing work for any reason was always frowned upon wherever you worked.
I realize that people got used to being home a lot during COVID, but just like the pandemic was temporary, so were the work schedules.
But like you said, you want more time to spend on the things that you like to do.
Wouldn't you have to agree that it was the wish of everyone back then to have more days off and shorter work days? But that didn't happen in real life. It was only a far away dream.
We worked our butts off back then and so did the people before us.
The pay wasn't very good either. So, what I ended up doing was moving closer to my employer to save time and gas.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do in life.

@Tracker1958 yes I've heard, I don't know why it took roe vs wade to make people finally become responsible with their reproductive system. Those options have always been around but people refused it, if people know 100% for fact they don't want children then I rather they go with those options than kill a child or abandon them.

I honestly wish I was born in japan, I don't seem to fit in in the US (outside of a few niche circles in bigger cities that are hard to find). I value the freedoms the US is supposed to give people, but most of those have since been removed from society.

I'm also having the worst time finding a girlfriend thats like me mentally, every mental match I find that isn't already taken or too big an age gap, is the in the top left or bottom right of the eurasian landmass.

America does not feel American anymore, it feels more and more like old germany each decade. If it gets too bad and becomes a full dictatorship, I'll move to another country, if it turns around and becomes "land of the free" again, then it will have my enthusiasm.

In my opinion people have become spoiled and developed a sense of entitlement. It seems like every election cycle there are offers of “free” stuff. Whether it’s free healthcare, free college, debt cancellation or stimulus money, there’s always something. Unfortunately what many don’t realize is that the “free” stuff isn’t free. If you raise minimum wage to $30 an hour the cost of doing business goes up resulting in higher prices. Human nature takes over and entitlement grows.

I believe this group and previous groups before them made out like bandits and now the have an entitlement attitude - what free stuff do we keep getting? They're always wanting more.

Generally, I'm seeing a trend where every industrialized nation seems to be losing faith in itself beyond a certain point of economic development. The people become apathetic. Western culture in particular really does not believe in itself anymore. Japan has a severe case of this mindset also.

In a way. The old Weber-style economic enthusiasm reached its peak with the Boomers, who inherited one of the greatest economic surpluses in human history, and did exactly squat to preserve it. The Gen Xers, and the older Millennials, are usually working harder than their parents did for less money (adjusting for inflation), and Gen Z and the young Millennials often don't see the point of working themselves to exhaustion for little reward.

This has been a long time in coming; Covid madness just sped it up.

The vast majority of open jobs pay so little that one can’t cover basic expenses with them. I suspect there is an increasing amount of work being done off the books, for cash. The good jobs that cannot be filled often have unnecessarily strict qualifications and automated resume scanners reject all but the most perfect candidates.

Secondly, what people don't seem to understand is that their pay doesn't just grow on trees!! Whatever goods or services their company provides gets that company the money to pay them what they earn. If their pay gets increased, and/or their work hours are decreased, that costs the company more money and, to get that excess money, they have to raise the prices of their goods & services, too! So, in order for those who want to buy those goods and services to be able to afford them, THEY need to get more money from THEIR company, which raises THEIR prices of what they make and the entire thing expands across the board until, finally, the people working at that first company in the pecking order are right back where they were when they started this mess!! That's why when dad was a boy, a loaf of bread cost a nickel!! When I was a boy, it was a quarter and now, it's over $1.00!! The only thing that's changing is that the money is becoming increasingly worth less!! The ONLY way to get more pay for your work is to get more and more people to buy/use your product/services!! The more you RAISE the prices, the fewer people are gonna wanna buy it, or will be able to afford it!
When I first started buying Reece's peanutbutter cups, they were a nickel a piece and I bought a LOT of them! I stopped buying them when they got to at least 25 cents @!! They just weren't worth it anymore! What are they now, $1.50?
