A lot of the country has been decimated by shipping entire industries overseas. Where once most people were able to have a decent standard of living now whole counties live on the edge of poverty. Drugs and hopelessness are the result.

How do you bring jobs back when the average American wants the most amount of pay and benefits for the least amount of output? Companies outsource overseas because it’s cheaper. Because…. capitalism, right?

@mobiusforniner Americans are the best innovators. During the last half century efficiency has been doubles and tripled. We need to leverage this to bring industries back to
      America.
New industries can be created and new ways of doing things can make a big difference. Think of the Industrial Revolution 2.0

@exitseven sorry, but everything you said is bs trump crap that will never happen. We can beat up on American workers not outputting enough but we won't stop buying cheap shit. Or pay more for American made. I try to and like buying American made.

But a client needed most their budget in online ads so we had to outsource overseas.

Everyone is miserable, things are expensive, and no one has the time to conjugate together like they did a couple decades ago. Libraries are practically empty, no one barely goes out to see movies anymore, children don't play on playgrounds anymore (at least not in densely populated areas). This is because no one really fights for Americans, contrary to what politicians want you to believe. None of them care about us, they don't even care for the white extremists they so desperately cater to. Only everyday Americans care about Americans, and everyone's too stuck on their phones or compliant to band together and make a change in their communities. That's why America is so unhappy. There is no love or community.

      To counter... semantically... lol

A couple of decades ago was the worst crime rates ever. And I'm sure the movie industry makes more today than in the 80s. Just not in theaters.

And we congregate online like... right now

But that's not really what I mean. This doesn't really feel communal ya know? Everyone is shouting into the void at once, rather than doing a scheduled activity (like bingo night, or neighborhood basketball). Same with movies, I wasn't referring to how well the movies do, more that 'going to the movies' was something that would be a popular date, or a hangout with friends and isn't anymore. And I can't really say anything for the crime rates as I wasn't born in that time, but everyone I've talked to who was a teen or older in the late 90s and early 2000s say they felt more safe then than they did now. Well anyway that's the way I've seen it 😭

It's hard to be happy when you're spreading hate. Your entire culture seems to centre around campaigning against the existence of one group or another. When your constantly being bombarded with hate memes and social media posts it's going to damage your mental health.

I don’t trust this. WalletHub is designed to help consumers make the best financial decisions and is ‘free’ much like the Honey situation we have to wonder is there a hidden profit motive that comes at the cost of the consumers for one.

For two, this is 2024 not the end of 2024. So how did this ‘happiness’ shift over time or did it not shift at all? I can’t tell from this still image.

If this chart showed ‘unhappiness’ in the blue states, I’m 99.9% certain a lot of right wingers would use this for political points and I’m not about that since this is ludicrous & baseless, all we have to go on is a corporate entity with a profit motive that labels happiness through ideal weather, life expectancy, and hours worked.

Now, I’m not saying ‘Bible Belt’ doesn’t have sh*tty qualities of course though what I am saying is this is really unreliable and simply just to score points.

      I wasn’t going to say this, but I will….
Pandemic come 2020 no vaccine yet the deaths & hospitalizations were the big cities which would be blue districts. Once the vaccine came around 2021-2022, the deaths & hospitalizations decreased the cities blue districts of course though deaths & hospitalizations began to stay potent in the red states because the unvaccinated rate was higher than the blue states showcasing the politicalization of the virus caused by ‘Chinese Virus’ hate mongers.

@OddBeMe The issue that I have is, a source I found had 2015 ‘36’ points happy in America then ‘31’ consistently from 2016-2024 so…. I would say happiness has declined in the country though the exact data amounts varies from source to source and trying to pin it down by state is difficult if not impossible. Hell, if I just asked people on the street and somehow got 300 million citizens I’m sure they’d say they are happy though have negatives on their mind… I’m happy, though the political issues facing this nation do keep me worried, though overall I’m feeling good.

The South is full of poverty, I wouldn't expect them to be happy. Some of their own governors think they should be poor.

In general Americans are not the happiest people because we are overstimulated and stay focused on trying to "get that bag," aspiring to be rich and live like celebrities, and then we complain about our mental health because we spend too much time on social media wishing to do or be like all the "influencers."

How happy can californians really be? There's mass homelessness, mass crime, high property taxes, water shortages, high taxes, low pay, low employment and a yearly exodus of people for neighbouring states.

Then there's the fact that African Americans are leaving Northern States for the old southern states.

Money is the biggest problem. China took over business and they are selling things to the us. Naturally American have less money in their pockets. And things aren’t cheap anymore. Gas used to be 1 dollar in old days. Now it’s triple. Electric cars are so expensive. There are too many latinos coming into the city illegally. It makes feel like legally people have less right than illegal people. And ugly people all over the world is coming into us. America used to be cute. Also Chinese restaurant made everybody fat. They had to overfeed Americans so that they can make more $. Entertainment business is not glamours anymore. It’s full of whores and pimps and gigolos that it’s dispise? Am I right?

This is not ment to be political so please no "hate" replies. But it seems like the deep south and some coal states that all are red in nature are not happy. I just wish people can respect political differences, it seems like it has gotten so much worse since around the 2016 elections. Life is short and we need to take care of each other and show some mutual respect.

Women's happiness has decreased steadily whilst men's happiness has increased which is interesting. Women's happiness appears to depend on how much their life looks like what they are told it should.

There is quite a long data series on this dating back to 1958. That is not to say the questions & methodology have been consistent and long term trends might be influenced by that.

Money does make you happy is a pretty strong signal.

No sense of culture or community. The least happy spots on that map are also the highest black American population, which is a good example of a community with no sense of culture or community.

Our rulers put us to war against each other anyway, so we'll never have social cohesion again. They can't even pull another 9/11 to unite us again. Things will just slowly get worse as the empire falls apart.

I just realized how flawed this map probably is. The only metrics that matter are self reported metrics, suicide rates, depression and anxiety rates, etc... weather and life is expectancy are terrible metrics. Hell, even number of hours worked is terrible because there's going to be a sweet spot for happiness for everyone, not a third party's personal feelings on what they decide is happiness.

WalletHub is about helping with finances and credit scores so why are they trying to score happiness. Basing happiness on weather, life expectancy, number of hours worked is not enough info. What about crime rates, environment, entertainment, type of jobs, schools etc. What I am trying to get at is there is too much to look at to beable to score happiness.

Why is number of hours worked a part of the happiness scale. You know people can voluntarily work overtime right?

Doesn't that depend on what they can earn hourly?

Not always, some people get paid salary.

In that case, people spending more time at work when they aren't required to are either idiots or there is something going on at home.

True. I always tell my salaried friends to count their hours and divide into their salary.

What a sad existence when your happiness comes from stirring the pot.

After the last four years, it should be obvious why Americans are not happier.

America is a great country to live in but highly stressful if you don't make enough money.
