Americans always seem optimistic and seem to have an optimistic view of the future.
Despite all the hardships that this nation may face they always seem to move forward and overcome the hardships.
I have friends who went to the USA who told me something like this: "Americans are always smiling and welcome you with kindness and good humor. They are quite open to foreigners and to discussion."
In my country and perhaps it is the case of the majority of the countries of Europe this optimism does not exist or not at all at the same level. If I had a caricature, I would say that Europeans live in a Greek tragedy and that Americans live in the world of Disneyland.
Of course Americans are not "dumb optimists". They know the hardness of life and the tragedy of this world, but they seem to have found a better solution than the Europeans to overcome the difficulties of life, and it has enabled them to achieve incredible things.
True American Patriots fight the good fight and do not relent. We understand that success requires great leadership and a populous that possess strong character, enduring work ethic, and civility toward one another. That is part of the moral fabric of our country. The people need to believe in the greatness of their nation so that we can stand united behind a common purpose. This unity drives a critical mass of creativity and innovation which attracts the best thinkers in the world to our shores. As a result people become more productive and competitive in world markets which generates growing economic output and a larger share of world trade. This keeps America’s standard of living relatively high which lifts the mood of a country. As is often echoed, America is the land of opportunity.
That said, a nations greatest war is always with itself. There are bad actors that subvert our institutions and foster corruption from within sabotaging the rule of law. This invisible enemy is a constant threat to our republic. These evil bad actors sacrifice the good people of this land for their own personal gain. They push political extremism through media as can be witnessed in the Democrat party which has been captured by those bad actors with the intent of igniting a civil war which would weaken our nation and leave our people vulnerable to becoming subjugated under a New World Order as competing nations rise while we squabble among ourselves. The dejected losers of society take the bait and act as their soldiers (BLM/ANTIFA) to bring their own nation down under the false promise of wealth redistribution (killing of the king ritual) which promotes the hollowing out of a nations wealth and drives it’s demise as wealth flees to friendlier shores. That said, there are more of us than there of them and justice will be served. The truth will be revealed and that optimism will be reignited and people will learn to treat each other well again, become productive, and earn more than we spend.
I think this is a direct result of WW2 and is fading fast. Discontent is growing quickly.
After WW2 we were basically the only industrialized country left with a functioning economy and with intact infrastructure. This really set us up until current time to have it easy. Additionally our politicians made an ever so brilliant move. We cut most of Europe in on a deal, even China. It was a classic guns for butter move. We told everyone (paraphrasing) “we got a problem with these pesky Russians, and you have major problems with your economies, so here’s the deal. You can export everything here. We’ll buy it up. We’ll have insanely low terrifs and import duties, you however can charge us what you like. We’ll use our navy, pretty much the only one still functioning, to destroy anyone getting in the way of this trade arrangement. All you gotta do is pledge troops to help with the Russians.”
This is what Trump was referring to when he was campaigning in 2016 about not letting China and other nations rip us off. He realized this arrangement no longer benefits us and correcting the lopsided trade agreements are long overdue. The Soviet Union is gone. Time to adjust the balances accordingly so they are more equatable as we will no longer need military assistance for a possible WW3.
All of this led to easy times since the end of WW2. We were free to focus on technology, our economy kept growing, we were only 1 of 2 military superpowers. We were on easy street.
Now the very same communists who we sought the help of other nations for are running the country and they have broken America’s back and are driving it into the ground. We’re done and many of us know it. Irreparable damage is being done daily.
Americans are about to learn what the lean years are like. This is why so optimistic. The generation that fought WW2 also lived through the depression. They knew harsh times. They’re all almost gone. No generation since has had to face much of any hardship or threat of any very serious military power, save Russia during the Cold War. No one alive here knows what it’s like for the country to fail. We’re all going to find out though.
Well our current president leaves a bit to wish for but we'll get Trump back in 2024 I'm sure (optimistic)
But yes, I'd say you're not far off !! We are generally friendly and very happy because we live in the greatest country on the planet. Everyone has at least one car and the poor get free healthcare including dental and medicine foodstamps housing etc...
I have friends from all over the world: Ukraine, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and they love it here

I try and be as optimistic as I can. I do welcome everyone with a smile and I'm friendly but that's just who I am. I'm a friendly outgoing person. I don't always receive it in return but that's not why I'm nice. I believe that you should love in the now. Yes plan a future have goals but also love for today because you never know when it could all be ripped away from you. I guess I grew up with it so it comes naturally to me.
I am a proud American but I am not an arrogant American. I do know that when people in other parts of the world are unhappy with where they are, this is where most of them want to come.
From within the US, I would *almost* say the exact opposite; it's basically made up of people who are perpetually dissatisfied with how things are going, and people who are largely apathetic and just don't want to get involved in anything that doesn't affect their immediate comfort. Yeah there's some people who are just always hopeful that things will turn around no matter what happens, but they are an extremely small minority. The American culture is largely addicted to the feeling of imminent threats and outrage mobs, often over petty things while ignoring more important issues.
It's no wonder. America has one of the best living conditions on this planet. Why shouldn't they be optimistic about life? Sure, there are still those unresolved problems like contaminating most foods and drinks with sugars and fats and expensive paid healthcare. But most of them do not struggle like the ones living in dictatorship countries North Korea, China or Russia.
I've been to the USA twice. Loved it. Very friendly people. Beautiful environment. Things just work.
I know some Russians say and think, that people in America fake their friendliness and put on the facade of being welcoming and optimistic but that has more to do with their own skepticism than anything else.
Despite how a lot of the policies that have been introduced in our country are radical AF! And make me lose brain cells, yes I still remain optimistic for those policies will eventually get overturned due to lots of people who once supported them will see the negative affects on society as time passes.

As an American I thank you for saying that. I've always said " America is an idea" that's it's strength. You can't kill a good idea. The American Dream, the believe that through hard work, determination, and a little luck a better life can be attained. Regardless of race, color, or faith. Sure we have our problems I won't bore you with naming all them lol. But Winston Churchill once said " Americans always do the right thing after trying everything else". Lol... Not a compliment really. But what I take away from it is the end. "we do the right thing" in the end. The idea of the United States was a secular gov't divinely inspired. Humanity working for the betterment of humanity. I pray that Americans never lose this belief in ourselves.
I think in the past, yes but the younger generation has been indoctrinated into believing the USA is bad, racist and oppressive. I wish these people would seek out a "better place to live" so those of us who actually produce, pay taxes and contribute to keep working to create a better country. Nihilism and narcissism are loser mentalities.
Americans do not know the hardships of the world. They are the least intelligent country in the developed world. They are always always last or next to last in international tests of science reading and maths.
@Bklynbadboy12 you can look it up, Americans are the least intelligent people in the entire developed world in reading, math and science. No wonder they had so many people die from covid for not wearing masks and getting vaccinated
Generally speaking, I don't think we're as optimistic as we used to be. A lot of people, particularly of my generation, seem to really HATE America and Americans.
For the most part I am currently very pessimistic on the future of the country especially since we are elected a blithering idiot. But most Americans are very optimistic
I am. I can't vouch for everyone. But I associate with those that ARE optimistic and have the capacity (attitude, skill set, physical ability, resources and the tools) to make their will manifest.
Then why can't you just be American instead of African-American? I don't call myself European-American.
You want to be treated like everyone else but you do what you can to distinguish yourself from everyone else. Do you see why many people would see that as conflicting behavior?
