Never heard that. The truth is each ideology - whether conservative or liberal/progressive have a strong desire to be in control over some manner of public issues.


Simple example is:
Many conservatives object passionately restrictions to gun ownership, LGBT programs in primary schools, or taxes to pay for social services.


Many liberal/progressives object to restrictions to abortions, a lack of pro-LGBT laws and programs for schools, or a failure to provide tax funded government social services.


Each one is engaged in a never ending tug-of-war to move the norm more to their liking. It’s not a “conservative thing” to want absolute control.

@goaded Wake up. The media is totally in the tank for the democrats and there are hundreds of political prisoners that have been thrown in jail for basically trespassing. Many have not been charged with any crime and some have not had legal representation. One person was murdered and the murderer has not even been charged.

The government is not doing that. That is simply another conspiracy theory. They have to be charged or released within a very short period of time that has long passed. If the government had not done this then their lawyers would be going to court for a writ of habeas corpus at this point which they are not doing.

It's really fundamental questions:

What, if anything, do we owe each other?

What goods and services are best produced and distributed individually or collectively?

Where is the proper balance of the needs of the community versus the rights of the individual?

In fact we do not "want the government to take care of everything"; far from it. You will find most liberals are staunch capitalists. The difference is that we believe that the savage externalities of the laissez faire marketplace need to be mitigated. Pollution, collective bargaining, healthcare, defense, energy, systemic & institutional inequities, retirement, maternity/paternity leave, elections, education, infrastructure, preservation of the "commons", R&D, consumer protections, workplace regulations & inspections, progressive taxation system, financial marketplace regulations, immigration, etc, are all necessary and BEST provided for collectively. That's it. That's the thesis. Will it require higher taxation? Yes, of course every liberal concedes that but concedes it toward a goal of a more equitable, stable, dignified society for ALL.

funny enough years ago, Bush Sr. was driving his huge two engine motor boat. That was my idea of a conservative. They don't conserve anything!
I think it's more about holding a set of traditional values, which they as well throw out to their advantage. As well, they are business oriented so the $ is holy... and was an impetus in outsourcing for decades.
When it comes to war, they use their power to maintain wealth. They favor discipline of society to standards and rewarding hard work vs govt distribution mechanism. They like to oppress people, as business people will do... hold them under their thumb.
