How do you feel about some of these "old school" traditions?

1- Men should always be the ones asking women out

2- Men should always be a gentleman and open doors for the ladies

3- Men should not let women pay when they take them out on a date to restaurants/movies

4- Women should cook for their men

5- Women should always take the man's last name when married

Although I like old school traditions, some of these have outlived their time. My thoughts on them specifically:

1. BS. That tradition can and should die and not be resurrected.

2. Men should be gentlemen, yes, but people should open doors for other people, regardless of gender. Just be thoughtful and courteous and polite.

3. 50/50. Just be adults about it and decide. How about saying, "I'd like to pay" or saying, "I'd feel better if we split this". Communicate. Heck, if you can't communicate about paying for a pizza, how do you expect to communicate about sex positions or swallowing?

4. BS. People should cook. 1950 meat and potatoes cooked by a woman wearing an apron is sheer and utter madness. Cook together for goodness sake. Or take turns. Or each one cooks what they cook best.

5. This one's interesting. I don't believe that a woman should necessarily take a man's last name because of some patriarchal imperative. However, I do think that families should have one last name for simplicity's sake. Rare exceptions for someone whose name is their brand. But it doesn't have to be the man's name.

Lots of traditions are nonsense or toxic and get abolished

1. Pffft, both should feel free to express interest and invite someone out.

2. I enjoy this of course, and always feel honored when a man does it for me. Always thank him.

3. I think the inviter should assume to be paying, invitee should be prepared to pay for themselves, and neither should be pressured one way or the other.

4. I think we should cook for each other depending on who makes the dish better.

5. I do prefer this tradition unless there are outstanding circumstances.

2. I'm not offended if guys don't do this. It's nice if they do.
3. Outdated. I pay for my own things. Perfectly happy doing so.
4. Everyone should cook and clean and work.
5. If they want to.
