Yes and no, those that want true freedom of speech, we do not have it... those that want to limit it, will hide behind the fact that 95% of speech is now online and hosted by private companies. They have no issues censoring 95% of speech then say, it is a private business.
I personally say, as long as social media is 95% of speech it should be the same as talking in person.
If if ever falls below 40% then they can do whatever the hell they want... that should be the LAW right there.
This is why I think there should be a social media company for video's, pics, etc... that is government run that is treated the exact same as someone speaking in person in public on a sidewalk.
Anything you can say in public should be allowed, anything that would get you arrested in public, should get you kicked off the platform and/or potentially arrested. Basically same rules as in public.
You seriously want the people who told you "read my lips, no new taxes" or "if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor", the people who run the department of motor vehicles and Veterans hospitals to run your ability to communicate? Have you met the government?
@Sixgunsound Yes I do, has to be better than the current social media setup of revenue based censorship. Remove the revenue from it, make it like a public highway, anyone can use it and no ad's needed, no monthly fees, open to all.
Shouldn't be an issue if the government can't censor anyone, by law... everyone gets to say what they want, and if it is something that would get them arrested by saying it in public then same deal online, if they can say it in person in public, then they can say it online.

So you want an overbudget, corrupt embezzled platform that functions about as well as The Obama care portal? You won't have a platform period. Everything government touches withers and dies. A lot of things the free market does do too, but they die off and get out of the way of things that work. Government just uses its monopoly on murder and highway robbery to force you to use its services, and with no reason to put in any effort and no consumer power to resist or make changes because it's illegal to get their money out if it it inevitably crashes and burns.
I know youtube has been heavily censoring things these days. We still have freedom speech, but not freedom of consequences or negative responses from our free speech. The day the government start throwing us in jail, giving us tickets, or even killing us over what we say will officially be the day free speech will die. I guess one could say we are possibly heading in that direction with all censorship that's happening.

Not on You tube or any platform the left controls. They have decided rather than debating fair and square that they must silence the people who dispute their narratives.
This includes removing them from positions of influence so the official narrative rarely deviates from theirs, and hiding and censoring regular people that disagree with them on every form they control.
We see this in academia, goverment bureaucracy, and silicon valley's (not everywhere) big tech all forms long dominated more than 90% by the far left.
They also control most big business via the control of the major financial cities of New York, Frankfurt, London, and Zurich and thus cultural domination of people who choose not only where the money (largely from borrowed from banks and people's retirement mutual funds) goes but how that money votes in shareholder board rooms.
Activist investing without the knowledge of the money owner is criminal, as such it must be done without the stake holders realizing it knowledge.

The 1st Amendment protects your speech from infringement by the GOVERNMENT. That's it.
Private tyrannies, corporations, can restrict your speech almost without limit. Why? Because a Conservative majority on the Supreme Court ruled they are "people" and thus have their own 1st Amendment protections. Sound like horse shit? It is.
Do you have free speech at work? Not unless you're in a union. If you want private tyrannies to provide free speech protections, that's going to take a Constitutional Amendment to overturn the Supreme Courts idiotic Conservative opinions.
Just to be clear, I'll paraphrase the 1st Amendment in simple words you can understand:
1. Congress cannot pass any laws that would create a state religion.
2. Congress cannot pass any laws that would make it illegal to freely exercise religion.
3. Congress cannot pass any laws restricting freedom of speech.
4. Congress cannot pass any laws restricting freedom of the press.
5. Congress cannot pass any laws restricting the right of the people to peacefully assemble and protest.
(The Supreme Court has ruled that these rights are not absolute and have some limitations.)

YouTube is a private corporation which can restrict speech however it wants. Why? Because a conservative majority on the Supreme Court ruled in "Citizen's United" (2010) that corporations are "people" and have 1st Amendment protections.

It's come out recently that at minimum the US government has Bern paying social media companies to do the dirty work they are not legally allowed to. I cannot imagine Twitter was the only company the government paid off to control the narrative.

Depends where you come from. Freedom of speech just means that you´re free to say what you want. It doesn´t mean that it´s appreciated by everyone though. Youtube and social media are like public spaces that have to follow some guidelines otherwise society would break down.
You have freedom to say what you want, but you will have to face the consequences of what that is. Youtube is owned by a corporate entity and so it has decided that is not acceptable as stated. Its like if you go into a shop and call the cashier a *!$$ they will chuck you out, you are free to say it.
