Do you think crime is just a low IQ problem?

I saw a drug dealer list his occupation as drug dealer on a non drug charge so he gave probable cause to search and they found drugs inside his house.
If it just so happens to be the case that low IQ people commit crime. What can be done about this? Just put them in jail repeatedly? Or what?

Nope, not even close... some of the best criminals that often get away with crime, are high IQ people who plan and execute things perfectly.

I personally think, most crime is simply a crime of opportunity. Something presents itself and person thinks they can probably get away with it, so they do it.

It could be some guy seeing a young girl walking home in rural America by herself, no cell phone service, offer to give her a ride, then grab her, rape her, maybe even kill her.

It is why drunk girls are often victims, the criminal thinks they won't get caught and she won't know.

Then there is other types of crimes that are the same way. Someone works for a business that has very poor financial tracking and finds ways to embezzle money. Since they have poor records, its hard to know what is going on and as long as they keep it small amounts, no one notices.

If they get greedy, they get stupid and thus get caught.

I was involved in a dental office audit for this very thing, and it was hard to prove that the office manager was stealing money but eventually it was finally proven after months of going through the software and financial records.

Opportunity to sell drugs to make easy money, is merely that... an opportunity that many can get away with.

If the odds of getting caught was say 90%, less people would deal drugs.

It could well be, after all most criminals get caught thanks to being as dumb as they come. But do we really want intelligent criminals?

Couple of years ago here a drug dealer complained to the local paper that the police harrassed him by kicking his door in and confiscating his drugs.

I mean…. bartenders, liquor store owners, alcohol production companies…. these are also all “drug dealers”, the government just isn’t tripping about it because they legalized the drug in question and see a cut of the money. It’s starting to happen with weed too. I sold weed for almost a decade, theoretically I could be in jail to this day if I had been caught at certain times. But now I can just walk into a store with my ID and buy it, for roughly the same price we’d illegally sell it at, plus a TWENTY FUCKING PERCENT tax. THAT’S what this is all about, don’t ever in your life get it twisted and start thinking that the government gives a shit about your well-being. And now, I see all kinds of older straightlaced looking people in the weed dispensary, who probably would’ve called the cops on me twenty years ago😂😂😂 The blind obedience where people allow the government to tell what is and isn’t ok is just mind-blowing to me.

It's not "just" a low IQ problem. A lot of highly intelligent people commit crimes, and not just white collar crimes. A stupid drug dealer probably won't stay a drug dealer for long. A stupid drug dealer also won't make as much money. It might be illegal, but it's still a business and basic business principles apply.

There is probably a stronger correlation between education level and crime than IQ level. Actually, I've poured through a lot of crime statistics and should know this, but I don't remember for sure.

To some degree, yes. There is evidence that lower IQ people are more prone to commit crimes. However, that doesn't mean you just put low IQ people in jail. Crime will always be with us. It is good to attempt to reduce it. Generally, I favor tough on crime policies like putting the habitual criminals in jail for extended periods of time, regardless of their race.

No. It's a resources problem, which is why white-collar crime is more rare than street crime. Rich people who commit white-collar crimes are just greedy assholes.

Iq plays a rule in it but people with regular iqs can still live a life of crime due to a bad childhood or a bad situation.

The IQ can be raised by killing off criminals (i don't think people would mind as much if the crime was a violent one or an especially vile one) and by having average people (and smarter) have children.

on average, pretty much the only people having replacement level fertility (2.1) are those below a 90 IQ.

No, not just an IQ problem. Serial killers are actually usually very smart. Statistically speaking, low IQ people are probably more likely to commit a crime of opportunity.
