In California, theft of property valued at $950 or less is classified as petty theft under Proposition 47, which was passed with 58% of the vote - a CLEAR MANDATE according to Trump!

Petty theft is generally charged as a misdemeanor and can result in penalties of up to six months in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both. However, if the stolen property is worth $50 or less and the offender has no prior theft-related convictions, it may be charged as an infraction with a fine of up to $250.

Proposition 47 raised the threshold for felony theft from $400 to $950 to adjust for inflation and reduce prison overcrowding. Despite some misconceptions, theft under $950 is still prosecuted, and repeat offenders or those with prior serious convictions can face harsher penalties, including felony charges.

Civilisation is built on people cooperating and obeying the law. When the law is no enforced then crime will go up. Think about it if you can go into a store and take whatever you want and there's no legal punishment what is stopping you?

Very common in most society that we have stratified penalties. Indo not believe that one political party has written most criminal laws. Most states make less than 800 bucks a misdemeanor. Same as a speeding ticket. do we really want to duplicate countries like the Saudi that hack off hands for minor offenses.
