Apparently, GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California wins the Speaker of the House vote. To get elected, he ran as a republican but he votes like a liberal democrat. Therefore, in effect, he is a democrat.

It's par for the course for the Republicans.

John Boehner was weakdick crybaby who folded like a lawn chair every time the Democrats stepped on his foot.

Paul Ryan straight up torpedoed his own party and effectively made Congress unfunctional for the first two years of the Trump administration, allowing Pelosi to do the same for the next two.

And now McCarthy, also a proud member of the spineless, folding armchair community probably the most ineffective prominent house politician in history is the speaker.

Let's be honest though - does anyone really expect anything better from the party of professional losers? The GOP establishment overtly avoids doing anything when they're in a position of relative strength, and only talks a good game when they're the minority and can hide behind the "well we tried" excuse.

I think it could have gotten way worse. Because if none of the Republican gotten through that would have put the Republican in a bad light alltogether. It would have been a bad start for any Republic candidate for 2024 to begin with.

I think no body either was naive enough to believe that a far right candidate would become the speaker. It could have gotten worse because imagine McCarthy hadn´t been elected and the Republican hadn´t been able to come to terms with a candidate. Such a situation would have made the US even worse in foreign perspective and it probably could have led to a speaker from a third party since not the speaker doesn´t have to be a deputy.

Let´s see if the GOP will ever be able come together for anything.

In the last session he had an 88% rating from the Heritage Foundation. The average Republican had an 89%. However his lifetime score is 53%. If he keeps to his more recent, he will survive. If he reverts to his former, I expect the chair to be vacated within six months.
