Governor DeSantis. Aside from the fact that the governor is far more in sync with my own political views - I am a Republican who is no fan of former President Trump - Mr. DeSantis has demonstrated skill and competence in an executive government role. As the experience with Mr. Biden is amply demonstrating, that is not an unimportant consideration.

Mrs. Obama, by contrast, though she may be a nice person for all I know, has no comparable experience. Her views are not particularly well established, beyond that which she revealed during her husband's tenure as President, and her actual experience in elective government is 100% unproven. Quite literally, she has none.

In a populist era such as that which the nation is currently experiencing, the dream is to find an individual who is NOT a politician. Who will step in and save the nation from the evil awful elites. To find the individual who is the "gifted amateur."

Suffice to say, that is a pipe dream. In a democracy, properly understood, the people do not decide, they decide which elites will decide - and then hold them to account. This the public does not want to be bothered with.

Mr. Biden had no experience in politics besides winning votes. He served as a Senator and as VP but did not really distinguish himself. His most famous moment being when it was learned that he copied the life story of the British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock and passed it off as his own. (That in itself being revealing given that Mr. Kinnock ran for election as Prime Minister three times - and lost in a landslide all three times.)

Then Mr. Biden ran for President from his basement and - grant that the choice of Mr. Trump was not really all that palatable, though even I would argue he was not without accomplishments, particularly in the area of foreign policy. At any rate, Mr. Biden - again, a man with no executive level experience to speak of - barely budged from his basement and the country said, "THAT'S WHO WE WANT FOR PRESIDENT."

Suffice to say, since then it has not been an especially distinguished tenure. Mr. Biden proving himself - as the line from the play goes - "I'm a man of no convictions - at least I think I am." Plus throwing in ten thumbed incompetence and, more recently, a gift for possessing classified documents for which, by law, he had no legal right. (Mr. Trump, as President, had the authority to declassify documents. The real question in his case being did he do so before taking possession of them.)

At any rate, long way around, the example of Mr. Biden should be proof enough that the nation would do better to look toward individuals of principle and experience in executive government. This Governor DeSantis has, whereas Mrs. Obama has some of the former - albeit, from all that has been seen they are not especially noteworthy - and absolutely none of the latter. (Watching one's husband do the job does not count.)

So for reasons both philosophical and empirical, the vote goes to Governor DeSantis. If nothing else, the success of Florida being ample evidence of his capacity to master the intricacies and nuances of elective government at the executive level.

I've never understood Michelle's popularity... She's basically Hillary Clinton, except black, more blunt with her hatred of certain people, and probably not a closeted lesbian. We are currently in "Obama's third term" as basically everyone in Biden's circle are the exact same people, some just playing musical chairs with each other, so all a Michelle Obama administration would get us is a president who can actually string sentences together while everything else stays the course. It would shift reception from frustrating to aggravating, and nothing more.

The article also mentions Buttigieg and Newsom, both of which are utter trainwrecks that have only failed upwards. Kamala is the same, but with more literal screwing, and the incredible ability to badly explain anything with the same level of comprehension as a 4th grader that didn't read the assignment.

DeSantis pretty much wins this by default, and the worst thing that can currently be said about him is that his lack of personal wealth would inevitably force him to be at least somewhat dependent on party money, and saying that big money in the Republican party is often wielded by fake conservatives is a grotesque understatement.
