no I wouldn't call it the norm. it's just how the job is.

politics is a dirty business and there's always scrutiny to come under a watchful eye should a chink in the armor be exposed. there's always rumors, gossips, backstabbing, character assassination and many more bullshit to deal with.

to be a politician requires one to be a ruthless, cut-throat asshole and show no signs of weakness otherwise it'll be exploited by the opposition.

if you take a career in politics for a few years and don't retire being "abusive" then you probably weren't a very good politician at your job.

I would not consider it the norm. It is the norm for media to make one or two incidents seem normative.

I've heard of fascist dictatorships, brutal violent theocracies and just general manipulation, nastiness and selfishness from many leaders all over the world. Historically, there disregard and contempt and feeling of superiority and other negative qualities. is well documented.

Look all over the world and you'll see in continents like Asia, Australia, Russia, Europe there leaders are terrible.
