I don't believe they are evil. However, some subset of their constituency might be. When it comes to democrats they tend to try to give the evil and the good equal voice. When it comes to republicans they tend to give voice to whoever pays them. Sadly this is almost unanimously evil people, though.

But it is the nature of representation that two people with the same representative are going to disagree. It's important for good pilitics to focus on what we can do about the things we agree on and use the ties made by those shared accomplishments to treat each other decently as we figure out what to do about the things we disagree on. Democrats mostly try to do this but suck at it. And unfortunately democrats sucking at it is only half the equation as republicans also try very hard to sabotage this cycle by ensuring nothing gets done about the things we agree over, instead insisting we all stay focused on the things we disagree over. This is because anger is more fun that the work of solving a problem and, because no one earning less than ten million would vote Republican, republicans rely on their supporters buying idea that voting for them will be funny instead of effective.

Their role is to serve the will of the citizens. This could all be done with software and cell phones. People could vote directly on bills that they themselves have proposed. We could take money and corruption out of the equation completely. Just have a fake president for parades and 4th of July speeches.

Except our North American leaders are trying to change the system so they no longer have a duty to serve the will of citizens and take power into their own hands. The more the size of government is increased, the more people become dependent on the government for survival, the more power it gains. This eventually leads into a socialist led country. It only takes one bad leader to be in power within a socialist regime to cause opression which results in bloodshed. Both Canada and the US need to fight against our governments that are trying to gain these foot holds over us. Historically, it only takes a matter of years for a government to become socialist. Socialism generally only lasts about 60 years prior to system collapse. So if we don't keep our government small, it could be your kids, or children's kids that will be suffering blood shed from the socialist systems being put into place today.
