Are most soldiers (of any nacionality) prone to rape civilians?

I mean both professional soldiers and ordinary men who have been mobilized and called into war.

Any military force (American, Russian, Polish, Swedish etc...)

Does something switch on in every man or do they just think they can do/take whatever they want, that's why rape happens?

I only wonder because many good men were called into war, many professional soldiers are normal like us, just doing their job... thus I cannot imagine they all capable of anthrocity like this one.

The significant majority would never, but the thing is that especially in a foreign country, there's a strong chance that soldiers won't turn their squadmate in if they caught him raping someone, anyway.

A historical example is the infamous mass rape that happened in Berlin after Germany surrendered in WW2, in which it's estimated that over 100,000 German women of pretty much every age were raped, but the number of known perpetrators were less than 5,000 (there were about 2,300,000 Soviet troops that were involved in the battle of Berlin), and there was basically no punishment carried out. Likewise, during the war, the Germans had strict regulations against rape that on many occasions resulted in execution when violated, but it's a known fact that it still happened extensively in Poland and France, and that it was specifically suspended in regards to Russians. Supposedly this order was misinterpreted and actually called for mass executions of Russian civilians, but in any case, it was an exception that was left to stand. Most other eastern European countries adamantly claimed the Germans were nowhere near as bad as the Russians in this regard. The US also has rules against rape and will absolutely bring the hammer down... if there's evidence and the accuser matches or outranks the accused. It went largely ignored during WW2 though, same with prisoner executions. Supposedly since and including WW2, the majority of rapes are carried out by rear echelon support troops rather than the Frontline combat troops.

Speaking from personal experience in the middle east, the claim about support troops is probably accurate, though I never saw or heard of any US soldiers in my deployment raping anyone, and it would've been extremely difficult to do anyway given where we were.

Oh here were go. This is gonna create a shit storm. I honestly can't speak for other countries soldiers, but I know American soldiers can't control their dicks. Okinawans have been trying to get rid of American soldiers for years because they keep raping their women. So many Afghan ad Iraqi women raped, and when Russia invaded Crimea, Crimeans said they don't want any American soldiers there because they will rape their women. From World War II to Vietnam to Afghanistan, American soldiers have always had problems controlling their dicks. I think part of it stems from lack of respect for the local women or women in general. But when you enlist young men with developmental disorders and poor education and broke families, what do you expect?

But surely soldiers from third world countries do it too.

i picked no but honestly raping during war is too prevalent so i would change my answer - i don't know what it is, maybe it's adrenaline or the feeling that they'd die so they'd just have to take whatever they can or they just like brutalising civilians because obviously not all soldiers do it but it happens way too much and definitely more than what we're shown in statistics
