Do liberals generally just hate themselves?

I'm trying to watch far-left content today as a sort of thought experiment. These people rip on the people most likely watching their content. They'll be the definition of what they're demonizing and... they just roll with it like it will make them look better. I put it into comparison with conservative news where they'll praise you for taking the time to understand... these people just call you names. Am I just crazy? This is a thing? I'll let you good people set me straight. Because from what I'm seeing... the type of person that watches this shit prefers to have their balls stepped on with high heels.

I really don't know what to make of delving into this world. It's like all fucked up and they do nothing but play the blame game... even at themselves. The kind of people who like to have their balls stepped on are just masochists; what's going in modern "liberal" (there ain't a damn thing that's liberal about openly calling for the erosion of free expression, due process, and meritocracy) circles is far more... I'm just going to be open and call it mentally ill.

The noble ideas of "not abusing power" and "helping the needy" have been twisted into notions of "abuse is inherent and perpetual"; a form of Christian Original Sin, but with no possibility of absolution- while at the same time, viewing the entire world, and every interaction, through a Marxist "power dynamics" lens. It's literally the worst of both worlds.

Why is it going on? Well, the media (in this country), for all it's been decried as "liberal", isn't- it's actually fairly conservative. But it's EXTREMELY strongly Democrat-aligned, if not outright Democrat-controlled, or even -owned, and the best way to motivate people who are also Democrat-aligned is (these days) through appealing to their compassion. Frame it as a matter of self-flagellation, and you can even get them- or at least most of them- to do so without questioning it. More Republican-aligned media sources tend to manipulate people by appealing to people's sense of vulnerability; relying more on the traditional anger and fear pairing. The genius of the newer variety is that you get status points for speaking out in defense of the "downtrodden" (whether that label is deserved or not), so not only do you not have to do anything, you're actually incentivized to keep the problem going, so you have a constant source of status.

Consider the response to Harry Potter. When the books got big, the more "liberal" media sources celebrated, because the books were delightful. More "conservative" media sources questioned- some outright claiming- that they were leading children into devil-worship. That was outright nonsense, as would be apparent if you actually READ the books. In response to THAT, the "liberal" media basically pointed and laughed, talking about how ridiculous their counterparts were being- and rightly so. But times change. Now, a new Harry Potter-related video game is being released, and it's the "liberal" media sources up in arms- not about a threat in the form of "prompting your children to turn to darkness", but "the series creator said some things about transsexuals on Twitter which we disagree with". I haven't made a deep study of what she's said, since I actually LIKE myself and so don't go on Twitter, but everything I've seen has been very mild- but since that demographic is perceived to have "victim" status, any criticism of them is seen as an attack, and a chance for more declarations of loyalty and virtue. Meanwhile, the "conservative" media laughs, talking about how ridiculous their counterparts are being- and rightly so.

So while the answer to your question is "no", you're not wholly wrong- it's not self-hatred, it's something deeper and FAR more insidious, and something that conservatives, and conservative media sources, and ultimately everyone, is not, I repeat NOT immune to. A politically healthy society is going to strong and reasonable liberal ideas, and strong and reasonable conservative ones (libertarian and authoritarian ones, too, as well as any other axises we can come up with), that hold the others in check and prompt them to improve themselves, in the competition for the loyalty of people's hearts and minds. Our society is currently very different. I can only implore you to not think of this as some kind of inherent defect of liberalism; it's not- it's a new form of a periodic madness that seizes sociopolitical movements from time to time, and nowadays has pulled the Democratic party completely out of touch with reality. Don't let that the same can't happen to the Right; in the past, it has.

Time has definitely changed things. When I was a kid it was the right trying to force their shit in schools and ban things for wrong think outside of schools. The satanic panic comes to mind. Now we seem to be dealing with a non-theistic religion that's based on oppression points or self-flagellation with an assumption we should all hate ourselves like them.

Oh man, I just remembered when Wallmart was editing all the CD's they'd sell for naughty words... that was definitely a time when the right was out of control. We called them the 'religious right.' It really sucked for me because at the time, Wallmart was the only place I could buy CD's... Ramstein was like the only thing they didn't put "moments of silence" into. My Easy-E CD didn't even sound like rap anymore it was so edited.

No. I know zero liberals who hate themselves, same for my conservative friends. Political labels are just meant to put us in categories and split us into tribes. Then talking mouthpieces can avoid real jobs by spouting nonsense by making us hate our friends and family in opposite parties, thus supporting their tiny hills they're king of.

I go back and forth about this. I think they're deeply uncomfortable and discontented people, in a lot of ways. But I do believe that they genuinely want to make the world a better place and they believe that their policies and ideas are a good way to do that.

Everything just starts sliding downhill and somehow they just keep getting the votes. I look at it from the outside and all I can say, is they're getting what they voted for.
