Why do black men resist arrest so often?

The Tyre Nichols case is yet another example in a long line of black men resisting arrest and ending up getting hurt or killed. It seems like common sense that if you're being arrested, you should cooperate or risk getting hurt or killed. Resisting increases the odds of that exponentially.

Why does it seem black guys do it so often?

And why isn't there a huge effort to educate them and discourage them from doing it? That would certainly save a lot of black lives.

Please don't say they do it because they are afraid of getting hurt or killed, because resisting makes that far more likely than if they cooperated.

Note that I am not excusing the horrible behavior of cops like the ones who killed Nichols.

very good question... let us know your summary. Sadly, I don't think we are getting this question and answer from society or the court processes... and so the trauma propagates.

I have theory that it is the propagation of the trauma from slavery. The slaves were controlled by authority and abused terribly. Then they were free and abused more in society, the abusers and the freers... were white and black, mostly white. Wasn't that many white people globally, like 1% were directly involved, but doesn't matter does it? Submitting to white people or posse meant murder or downright cheated in court. Being caught meant the same. Can't run, can't get fair treatment... sound familiar? Ain't gonna submit! Doesn't have to happen to that many before people form a pattern and wound.

Some got out of that mindset and trauma. Whole sections of the country have not.

That is propagated in society in the culture, in the music, in the environment. Crime is higher there, and that feeds the issue. Those reports in the media of black people (usually AA), smacks an old emotional wound to their core and reinforces the trauma... fight/flight.

After all these social videos, what options do some black people have left? Only takes a certain portion to have a bad reaction or be intoxicated/drugged to have an altercation. Some % of those end in disaster.

It only seems like black people resist arrest more often because it’s sensationalized in the media. White people are hurt and killed by cops more often, but nobody cares; at least not about the men. So we just never see it or hear about it. The current popular term is “optics”.
It’s an unpopular fact that if you have a police encounter, you’re probably doing something wrong. Whether you don’t think you were wrong or you just don’t want to be punished where you know you should, you’re likely to resist being arrested. In doing so, as you point out, you’re more likely to get hurt or killed. Black people are also more likely to become martyrs in doing so. Many ineffectual people can launch their status into immortality by being killed by the police. I read an article examining the psychology of “suicide by cop”. It was simultaneously fascinating and morbid.

Did you know that white men also resist arrest often? The difference is that when they do, the cops don't try to beat or press them on the ground to death. In fact, in many, many cases, white men have even struck back at cops or shot back at them point blank, and the cops will still try to detain them with little force. Other white men literally go running and holing themselves up in some building, woods, car, barn, etc with a gun, and the police will try to plead with them to surrender for hours...

But when black men show the slightest resistance, cops become 'triggered' to show the utmost violence and brutality to "stop them."
