Since the whole Tyre Nichols incident a lot of people are saying ACAB on Facebook. Do you believe ACAB or just a select few?
A very small minority are bad, but even good people have bad days at the worst times. There are over 60,000,000 police interactions a year, yet only a tiny, statistically insignificant fraction end with wrongful death; usually about half or fewer as many officers are killed on the job.
That sad, there's more to this story that appears to be getting glossed over. Five cops going after one guy for a minor infraction is strange on its own, plus as of two hours ago, the hospital still hasn't actually confirmed the cause of death while the media is running with the assumption it was a direct result of the beating (which is probably true, but it's weird that it hasn't been made official by now). These guys were also part of a now disbanded gang unit, which are usually not staffed by amateurs or unproven officers, though one of them (Haley) was accused of excessive force in his previous job as a corrections officer. There's a strong possibility Tyre was not the innocent angel the media wants everyone to to believe, but this level of force used is way beyond what's necessary. It seems too personal, but then again why exactly would five officers do something so obviously wrong when they know they're being recorded? If Tyre has somehow pissed one of these guys off, how exactly would he convince four others to throw their lives and careers away over this? And for some reason, two firefighters have also been fired for actions related to this incident, and the department is also using this it as an excuse to disband unrelated teams and potentially fire other officers who aren't involved. The department's messaging this whole time has been very bizarre and seems to care more about political pandering than accountability, and the more idiotic fluff pieces I read on the subject, the more convinced I am that somebody is jumping through a lot of hoops to exonerate themselves of any wrongdoing no matter the cost.

In the most direct sense, it’s obviously not true that all cops are bad. There are very few absolutes that are even accepted as true, let alone verifiably true. However, when you consider truly bad cops, complicit cops who aren’t necessarily corrupt or criminal, administrators of an obviously deficient system, and the very human tendency to resist relinquishing power, it’s pretty safe to assume most cops are more dangerous than should be acceptable to the citizens they’re meant to “serve and protect”. It’s also important to remember that cops are a tool of the empire, and they are hired accordingly. Meaning cops do not see themselves as servants of the taxpayers, but authorities over us. They are servants of the powers that be. That’s who hires them, cuts their checks, pays their fringe benefits, and fires them. We the people are the problems that demand their presence and stand in the way of an easy paycheck. Which is the real American dream. How protective are you of the obstacles between you and your dreams?
No we all know all cops aren't bad I feel there is a small few who are bad... I have cops in my family and they are all good cops
No. There's always going to be bad apples in every job title.

Not all cops are bad, but I do think quite a significant enough number of them are. Even beyond just their job. A lot of cops are actually violent to their wives or girlfriends, or do shit like speeding on their days off cuz they know if they get stopped they can get out of it. And cops know the laws pretty well that they do their own shady shit to get around them. Hell, it's even been cops who went to prostitutes and ended up being one of the johns to get busted in stings. Just like lawyers and judges.
My issue is that the American police force is broken. We are the most violent in the world and have the shortest period of training in the world also, which is why so many of these guys are so troubled once they get into the force.
Of course not. Just clearly there is some lack of standard to who they are hiring, need more vetting and recordings. Lucky the recent event had a clear recording showing undoubtful proof. But it should have never got to that point, these cops showed no fear that they would be punished for their actions so I would guess they got away with shit before which if so they need to crackdown on it.
Of course not! My father was a cop. And was one of the biggest boyscouts you were going to meet. I could tell you a million stories. The media doesn't typically report all the good things cops do like they do headlining bad things. But if the system is sound bad cops don't typically stay cops for very long.
Unfortunately, the only times you hear about cops is when a small minority of them go off the deep end. Most police officers get up for their shift, knowing that today might be their last and act and dress appropriately, but remember they are servants of the people, protecting the general population with little or no thanks from that same public.
How many Police officers have you met or had run ins with? You could answer that for yourself... Every bad thing is reported, none of the good things they do daily while risking their lives is ever talked about...
No, I know literally hundreds of cops. I will say that not all of them are heroes but 99% of them are people who want to serve their communities.
I don’t think all are bad, they’re just useless. Well they are here in the UK anyway.
Individual cops? Nah. But when the well has been poisoned, what we see is what we get.

When it comes to cops, you're always going to have a few bad apples in the group, but most are good.
I think the bad ones are in the minority. Most are just imperfect human beings doing a dangerous, high stress, thankless job.
All cops breathe in the same racist culture. Of course not all of them act on it, or are influenced by it. But when it’s the culture of the department, it’s hard not to involve yourself in it.
I believe just a few are bad.
I do not belive all cops are bad. I belive most of them are good normal people, a few are extra good and a few are bad.
Nope some are bad some are not so we must judge them on an individual bases
No, not all are bad, but the ones who are bad make all of them look very bad.
Nope.
I don't think so
