I watched a small part of this.
Your title is exactly what's wrong... why did they do that? What happened prior that got the cops so agitated? You know cops have suffocated white and Asian people to death right, for doing nothing wrong.
Why did he not submit to the officers, get on the ground and get cuffed... rather than resisting, getting up and running? Answering this ends up being the racial issue because some AA's do not trust the cops with their life, so they fight/flight. Most Americans would submit and be cuffed (as long as they are not drunk). In other words, when 4 cops have to show up to arrest you... go limp. Oh that's right, that doesn't work either because of the 'black' guy (that was the media message) murdered by police in Baltimore [Freddie Gray]. See the problem is in some AA persons viewpoint, they can't submit, they can't run, they can't freeze... they are likely to be killed... that is serious stress response. Other citizens don't feel like that engaging police, except criminals. This is what I heard from 'AA' people years back, before girlfriend. Not all, it's feelings.. and now emotions. So many videos show AA person being killed by police after inability to arrest and transport... Rashard Brooks is another example. That puts cops in "bad scenarios", and sometimes... they fail.
No, police should not be beating people to death. However, ... and people hate hearing that word as justification... what are these cops dealing with on a daily basis, why are they so easily enraged? Need to find that out to make any progress...
I'd ask... given the video and full scope of what transpired... what are police supposed to do when they have to engage an AA person and arrest them... and the AA person resists? That is the mess we have that is feeding the inability to deal with crime. Fear, and it's legit on both sides. Until that is answered, just leave a piece of paper with blank spaces for the next disaster videos.
And the next question you should ask on GAG is... how many police will die, leaving wives and kids, because of what went wrong in that video? That one won't be approved.
I'm walking the line on it for now. I said it isn't right to beat someone to death, that's out of line. Maybe they should just start "laughing gassing them"? Ditto for crushing people to death and ignoring them... multiple people. But... what isn't being heard, unless we address the citizen side of this, then its gonna repeat and repeat. If it isn't obvious yet, we can't find enough cops to do the job 100% right. We'll have more trouble finding people, standards lower, and all of us suffer under the ensuing crime spree and even worse mistakes.
I have to see the whole scenario to make my judgement, and I'll do that in case they call me up for jury duty. probably have to go nationwide to find someone not biased to sit on jury.
Sadly, I never hear an answer to my question... what are cops supposed to do to get people who resist under control? That answer must take into account the real threats cops face on an hourly basis. Nurses are better... but they aren't under the same threat load as cops.
Id want to see what lead up to that, I'll reserve judgement. I can only assume they did not use a knee to the back to control because that is not allowed and we know why. That leaves other options to control him, which I saw them fail at some in this video, not all unlike Daunte Wright scenario... failure to control feeling suspect.
So I need solid answer from law enforcement of how they will do this job. I'll place odds... they don't have one because they've been disabled by society.
Highly relevant. I don't think courts think the way I do and rarely does a decision go the way I think, I'm the oddball it appears. But if someone creates a scenario of risk, to me... they take responsibility for some of the result. Why do we put 100% of blame on officer trying to do a job to control someone? If we strip their ability to control someone, what choices they have left? It's small matter of degrees when in a state of rage. Those cops deal with the worst of the worst... and now they are off the streets... replaced by who? The criminals. Anyways, the % of responsibility is what's in question to me and if they went too far and punishment for that. If the cop gave a lawful order to stop, that he was under arrest... that's end of story right there. correct answer is "Yes sir!". Anything else, he was a party to creating the response.
Until society works like this (submission to authority), you'll be dealing with nut cases like me... and videos like that and far worse.
Yeah because he was right to run from these cops, they had a history of brutality in that area.
You are eight times more likely to be killed by a US cop than a terrorist, it's a lot higher if you are Black.
Life imprisonment for all of them no possibility of parole

Why are US cops so fucking useless? In all these videos I see, they can't seem to get a pair of cuffs on someone without needing five officers there to do it. They clearly need better training. And the guys in this instance need jailed.
Well, unlike in past cases, there will be at least some measure of justice. They fired and arrested those officers on the spot.
Watch these nasty pigs laugh and brag about beating him to death.
If I was judge they will be put to death immediately after trial.
I’ve read about it. And surprised even black officers do the same. Police culture is pervasively racist. No matter how guilty the suspect was, I hear he may have been trying to get away. It doesn’t sanction death by beating.
It's hard not to hear. I haven't watched the video, I don't need that in my life.
