Well to be honest in the video the "cops" seem to be more idiots - the chasing, behavior, etc. - than anything. It's very unfortunate that a guy got killed because these morons were hired.

The interesting thing is, does BLM apply when the cops are black themselves? Most BLM protests is about meany white cops.

Yes, this is still a BLM issue despite the police being Black.

Simply ask yourself this:

If the driver in that car was White, would the cops have beaten the shit out of him like they did this young man?

That's what happened here.
Memphis is predominantly Black; about 2/3, I believe. These cops were part of unit that operated in a high-crime area.

So, being on this unit, those cops were probably edgy to begin with.

So, making a traffic stop in that neighborhood, they likely made the presumption that Nichols was possibly a gang member. I don't know.

Still, Nichols didn't deserve what happened to him although his fleeing didn't help him because that just elevated the anger of the cops who stopped him.

Too bad Nichols and his family moved from Sacramento to Memphis; had he stayed in Sacramento, this sort of thing would not likely have happened.

These 5 cops are charged with second-degree murder.

I suspect the cops will take a plea for Voluntary Manslaughter although they might just go to court on the Second Degree Murder charge and take their chances. If I was on that jury, I am not sure I can convict on Second Degree Murder and, if I cannot convict on Voluntary Manslaughter, I might have to acquit. Now, if I am thinking like this, there is a good chance at least one other juror would too and that would lead to an acquittal. Prosecutors need to consider allowing conviction on Voluntary Manslaughter.

It used to be that an ass beating as a part of the pursuit if you run from the cops. That's changed today. These officers didn't get the memo, and they took it entirely too far. As a result, this man is dead. While I don't think they intended to kill him, they still ended up doing it and should be held accountable. This has nothing to do with race in my opinion. That's like a female boss firing a female employee, and being told that she's sexist. Police misconduct like this exists around the country. It just so happens that blacks statistically commit crime at a marginally higher rate than everyone else, so therefore police have these encounters with black people more. This is entirely unjust, and quite disgusting, but I don't think this has to do with race at all.

Black Lives Matter has been proven to be a fraudulent organization. Just look at their balance sheet and investments which is public information. I really hope that BLM doesn't get involved and they just fade out after being exposed the way they have.

That incident is disgusting. I don't think it's possible to put into words how abhorrent, horrific, disgusting, and just plain unacceptable that entire situation was. It is a stain on law enforcement. Citizens have the right to resist an unlawful arrest, and to be honest, I would also refuse to get out of the car and/or try to run away if I were stopped and 5 cops jumped out at me screaming threats at me and using racial slurs. I wouldn't want to get out and deal with them, either.

All of the factors that typically serve to reduce excessive force by cops didn't do anything on this call. The officer being the same race of the subject, and having multiple cops on scene typically reduce the chances of the cops using excessive force. That didn't happen in this case. The conduct of these cops shocks the conscience to a degree that is so wildly unacceptable it's insane.

As to your question on BLM, I don't know. But, speaking as a cop myself, and knowing what I know about that call from what's been released, I think it's safe to say that the cops made a series of completely unacceptable decisions. From start to finish the entire call was unnecessary and horrifying.

I think in this situation we should keep an open mind. We can’t make this racial.

We have to make this legal.

Even if it were to happen to anyone else- handle it swiftly and always give the truest form of justice.

What they did will forever be wrong.

I don’t know their motives- if someone blackmailed them, threatened their career; I don’t know what it could have been.

I just know that it’s terrible he died such a horrific death, and I think regardless of their color they should lose their jobs.

I think the other police should have lost their jobs as well.

What they did was not in good conduct, was inhumane, and unforgivable in the sense it is irreversible.

I suppose forgivable, with the right heart and some time, but forever inexcusable.

I’d like them to release all the video. It’s easy to take fragments and say: “look! He was beaten to death by police!” What happened during the initial encounter at the traffic stop? Why did it turn violent immediately?

It’s clear from just what was in the video the suspect was resisting arrest as he did in fact escape the police for a period of time.

If someone resists arrest and gets injured or killed, why does it seem we always want to blame the police for this instead of the suspect? Is the suspect in such situations never responsible for what happened?

If these cops did in fact unjustly beat him and did so not in accordance with their duty, the laws, and department regulations then let them pay accordingly. However I think what needs to both be carefully examined by prosecutors and reported by the media is if the suspect was actively resisting arrest which lead to this. We are quick to blame the cop and never the criminal for the outcome of a situation like this.

All I know is 10/10 people who don’t resist arrest don’t end up dead at the hands of police.

We didn't even need to have protests. They were immediately arrested because they were black cops.

The protests are when they white cops murder one of us and go bout they business and continue to work because the police immediately side with the white cops.

This makes me really sad and angry. There are many people who are committing serious crimes and nothing happens to them. I've heard about it on the news and the fact that all police officers were black shocked me. But then again, I learned the hard way that some black people hate black people. These cops abused their power and I truly hope they stay in jail for the rest of their lives.

It's one of the worst things I've watched... one cop pepper sprayed himself and another cop with his own pepper spray, them kicking that guy in the head when he already had handcuffs on. It was messed up and those cops are the reason anyone would hate cops. I watched all the body cams and this CCTV footage.

Tyre Nichols didn't resist arrest, was not a known criminal, and had every reason to be afraid as these "cops" had a reputation before this event.

That Nicols was on camera subject to wolfpacking by feral cops, should be evidence enough why police needs defunding. The whole force needs retraining and rebuilt from scratch.

BLM does not apply here because, unlike George Floyd, Tyre Nichols can't be used as a political tool to divide Americans and fan the flames of racism.

The video confirms what everyone thought, but you won't hear a word about from liberals or the black community... Nichols resisted arrest.
