There ARE earthquakes right now. “Earthquake” colloquially describes all seismic events. Seismic activity is extremely frequent and almost everywhere.
    https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=-14.43468,-127.96875&extent=69.47297,-62.05078&map=false

I think it’s anything rated 2 and down is imperceptible to most humans. So we just don’t notice most of them.
You’re referring obtusely to catastrophic events. Nobody is really prepared for such things. It’s not really possible to be prepared. We don’t have an early detection system for catastrophic earthquakes. We rarely know when they will occur or how significant they will be. The only thing i think could be almost universally helpful is for more people to own and wear geolocators. There are fancy schmancy watches extreme explorers often wear that have a rescue function that transmits their location to rescue teams. If every person wore one and if every rescue team could track them, then finding survivors in time would be much more efficient. They could save more lives.

I was on the local urban search and rescue team and it depends what you mean by prepared.

Here, in a significant earthquake, the pre 90s buildings in downtown will collapse, there will be fires and if there’s a tsunami it is likely to flood the majority of the downtown area. When I left USAR in 2014 there was not a comprehensive plan to deal with this.

I don’t think there would be a ton of casualties, probably hundreds at most in a city or 350,000. Worst off would be government workers in old brick buildings downtown, but it would definitely put the city back a good 10 years and people would definitely suffer.

Don't know if my building is built to withstand strong quakes. But I do have emergency supplies set aside. Water, canned food, batteries, lights, blankets, a big first aid kit, and a radio. I can't take the credit though, my dad is the one who set all that up for me

Yeap. There's no buildings except my house and she'd that can fall, and I have some reasonably sturdy walls and ceiling beams.

we have options, but we'd be out of water and cold fast depending how far and wide it is. but this is a low fault area... not likely. more like an A-bomb goes off as I'm sure we are on a target list, and we'd be gone within a week.

Turkey is high fault as is california and other areas.

I'd be prepared for anything anywhere because the earth's core apparently shifted. Like Tsunami's...

No and it doesn't matter. If the earthquake doesn't kill me, then either the nuclear bombs or world war 3 will or the famine followed after. Dying isn't so bad. Still have these survival instincts tho.
