Are you or your country prepared for earthquakes like the one in Turkey?

How prepared are you for a possible earthquake in your country like the one in Turkey?
I live in an earthquake prone country and specifically an earthquake prone city (fault line runs right through the middle) so I've been experiencing earthquakes and been educated on them since forever. After the two Christchurch quakes and the Kaikoura one there was a lot of damage done to buildings around the country and earthquake codes changed, many buildings had to be earthquake strengthened. Though some like one in particular was too expensive to earthquake strengthen, nobody wants to buy it and it's a historical building so it can't be torn down.
We have earthquake plans with family. Grab bags with food and medical supplies, plus water.
Because most cities are coastal areas the rule of thumb is "if it's long or strong get gone". My work is basically on the beach and I even though I don't have my license i have permission to take the work car if I'm working alone to get myself and others inland in the event of a quake.
I admit, I’m just now really reading about it. Thats so sad and scary. I hope all the Turkish users from here made it out okay at least. I don't know if we’re prepared for earthquakes over here. I dont think we had one since the 1900s I don't know but i’ll keep praying that we never have one
Nobody is prepared for that magnitude of earthquake. I think Japan has the best engineering in the world regarding quake-proofing, and they still had a major incident in Fukishima due to earthquake activity.
We are not near any tectonic fault lines in Germany. The strongest earthquakes we ever had were nothing but smaller tremors. No concerns here.

I’m not sure you can really be prepared. As far as I know in my area we haven’t had any earthquakes. But a little to the west there was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake near Kimberly so I guess not super far away or uncommon. From what I understand though there was no damages; and no expectations of a tsunami off the coast of BC
Are legal buildings are build to hold, we pass traings all the time at school and check on reglations all around
I say we are pretty ready, we yet to have much anything so bad, but we train and train for the case, between gas.. bombs and outher trainings some that come more helpful then outhers
You can never be fully prepared for natural disasters you just hope you can at least cope with the aftermath and build. semi earthquake prof the best way is make sure you self-sufficient for a month or more I used to live in southern California, so I am always prepared even now I live in Florida so stay prepared for hurricanes now
Well, i live in turkey. I felt earthquake but there is no any collapsed building in my city and can say that we are not ready AT ALL.
I live in 15th floor of an old building, during earthquake couple days ago, all I could do was staring at my cats, nothing else...
@turk55 Antalya
I live in California and not far from active fault lines.
Nobody ever is prepared enough for a natural catastrophe that is so intense.
I grew up near train tracks that would rattle the ground where my home was and because of this I cannot feel weak earthquakes
literally the entire house would shake because trains ran through all hours of the day
not much, we could have one... and if we get hit, we are financially wiped out! Maybe time to double check the insurance!
No, because we don't get them in the UK like this.. Thankfully.
Such a shame for them!! 😔🙏🏻❤️
There are building codes so people build them to withstand an earthquake of a certain magnitude that is determined by the history of the area
I do not get earthquakes where I live so if that happened I’d be very unprepared.
My city is in such a region, we will geographically never have earthquakes 🙏🏼
My country is barely prepared for a truck getting stuck under a bridge let alone an earthquake. General consensus is that we are screwed.
Natural disasters dont happen in finland. Its the government byroCRazy that drives people to extinction.
Totally unprepared. But then nothing of this magnitude has ever happened in UK.
We pretend that we are, but if a 7.6 or higher hits anywhere near Los Angeles it will probably be catastrophic.
these things don't really happen here but we build quite solidly here.
I'd like to think we are. Cleveland doesn't really get them, because we don't sit on a major fault line
We had one last year that no one was prepared for. Thankfully, it didn't do too much damage.
No, because we don't have major earthquakes in the UK.
simple, my country has no risky tectonic plate boundaries in it
