It’s been a long time that i’m thinking about going to study in Istanbul, I was planning to start this September but I just found out five minutes ago about the huge risk of an earthquake in istanbul. I’m literally frightened now and don’t wanna go anymore even tho i had plans for it and was so excited to. ( if i don’t go ill have to stay in my hometown and i don’t want to )

Sooner or later, Istanbul will face an earthquake. Turkey is a hotstop for earthquakes. My hope for people in seismic hazard zones both in Turkey and elsewhere is that they don’t live in fear, but instead, take realistic and functional steps to protect themselves, and then live their lives as normal.
i guess for some old buildings sadly they can’t protect themselves even if they tried.. it’s so sad and even if i rent in a new building iam not sure it will survive..🥲
Since the old buildings are not regularly maintained, there is no doubt that these buildings and the people living there will unfortunately face a catastrophic end. But this Istanbul earthquake, which may exist, will not be as devastating as the earthquake you experienced a few months ago.
apparently it’s gonna be as destructive or even worse 😔 arghh this is terrifying really
Perhaps your LOVELY president will take measures in this regard.
iam not turk 😭 but i hope he will damn m really considering coming
You can't predict earthquakes. There are a lot of places that have fault lines that run through or near them so they are susceptible to earthquake risks. Istanbul has one running right through the middle of it so earthquakes are a common occurrence. Doesn't mean a big one will happen, we can't say that it will or won't. Small ones are likely an everyday occurrence. It's not something you should worry about to the point of halting your life. Just make sure you are prepared incase one does happen.
but on internet they that it’s certainly gonna be a huge one between now and 2030 😔 ill only stay there for two years but I don't know iam so scared ill try to prepare myself but damn
Yeah they say stuff like that all the time. There's many places that are overdue a "big one" California is like 300 years overdue.
They mostly just say things like that to make people prepare and because they did recently have a big shake. Just make sure you put together a grab bag and have enough water for 3 days.
Ideally stay in a quake safe building
thank u so much <3 ill take those advices and hope for the better
Sooner or later, lol.
