What do you think about supervised consumption programs?

I'm sure it's difficult dealing with these people and getting them better. Only as a temporary inroads to treatment. It goes with the times and the thinking today..."we don't have a solution or understand it, so accept it". Since there isn't a solution for them in the system, just feed the drug addictions in a safe way.

If that doesn't scream "there is something very wrong with this psychiatric system" I don't know what does.

Maybe the establishment should go back to exorcisms, finding root emotional causes and spiritual/religious solutions?

I'm addicted to chocolate desserts and it's making me fat and clogging my arteries, so I should have safe govt provided facility where I can endulge myself in vats of chocolate and ice cream, under the care of "professionals" that will care for me, instead of finding and dealing with the root emotional and physical causes of my addiction. I should definitely not take responsibility to make changes in my life... that's on my "dr" to do for me via the proper prescriptions to manage my brain chemicals.

hopefully that sounded ludicrous, but that's the system. It's bunk. Humans make their own drugs, when they have the right stuff going on their minds... the chemicals are locked up, until some trigger releases them as reward.

Expecting drug addicts to make changes has proven to be a dismal failure. Arresting people for drug possession has been an even worse failure. Providing people with a place to safely use their drugs without selling or sharing them is about the only solution left.

I've seen addicts and murderers get better, after coming to Jesus. Personally experienced a few along the way, not saying all and it's never easy, it's a choice.
The problems as you know, is not some logic from math class that got them confused. The problem is emotional wounds from early life and/or traumas they were not able to come out of. Some just made bad decisions and got hooked. But they are not only addicted to a drug physically but the drug addresses their emotional void. Humans need love... security and connection.
I'll pause there.
You know what human beings require and thirst for as does science, but it seems to completely ignore that need and tries to replace it with science of understanding. Understanding helps, it doesn't address the need. If the underling root causes are not found and addressed and then handed something better to replace the old drug, then it seems to me you all are wasting your time and the proposed solution works... just let them take their drugs!
The separation of church and state in this case, has really screwed humanity.
People can be "Christian" and very not christian, it takes constant work and life is a process.
Healthy people emotionally feel loved, connected, secure, have hope. That seems universal.
It may work outside of "God", I don't know, I just see the solution Christ presented and... it makes sense.

What works for one person does not work for the next person necessarily. These are very complex problems and that is a lot of what makes treating them so difficult.

I can only imagine. Is the underlying method to look for offending traumas and emotional wounds?

There really is no underlying method, and that is a large part of the problem.

An old therapist I got to know had a method, but it involved God at the end. I wish she got her book written but I don't think it got done. Basically, she used the tools you likely know to backtrack and find the root causes of trauma to the person. That included examining generational level trauma that rippled through [the belief from the Bible that such things traverse 3 generations], look for "oaths", curses. Then once located, those were cleaned up with the love of God, their energy released using prayer and speaking the truth into the wounds. She was able to help at least one substantial MPD that had repressed all the mess that controlled her, and she was able to live after that. Multiple success cases.
The researchers discovered the tools, she plugged in the healing from God part. It makes a lot of sense to me and she had success with it. It was group therapy at times. She wrote book but had troubles getting it done, she was late 90's.
It's really makes sense to me, finding the wounds is hard... discovery... can be random, since they are repressed and viewed as "truth".

In my youth I was vigorously anti-drugs in all forms and wanted drug users punished. Now I see how addiction affects people and have softened a bit. The amount of illicit drugs the U. S. consumes is mind blowing, and not all of the users are "addicts". Some people can "recreationally" use illicit drugs and lead a functional life, others can't.

I have to think the desire for drugs is in part a need to escape. To me this is a quality of life/mental health issue.

To answer you question, I don't have a fucking clue. What is best for society as a whole? What is best for these users?

We have those here and I think we need more tbh. Addicts aren't going anywhere, we should of course work towards zero addiction but that isn't rooted within reality. This way, they're out of sight - there are not neighborhoods filled with addicts visibly shooting up, snorting or whatever and that way we have less overdoses as mentioned.

We even have a place in my little town - where addicts are known to hang around and often take their drugs. I prefer them being gathered there in one place - rather than being around in the streets. I've been there a couple of times.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s and drugs were everywhere. Mostly pot and acid but many used cocaine too. There was a big stigma against anyone who was addicted to heroin. I knew one kid that used it and nobody wanted to have anything to do with him. He was basically an outcast, even among big time heads Now we have addicts camping on sidewalks and drug dealers selling heroin and fenyanyl out in the open. Show biz people think it is okay to use this stuff and the courts just give a slap on the wrist to people in possession of these drugs. Law enforcement has to be allowed to uphold the law and the courts have to step up too and give longer sentences to drug dealers especially the ones selling a drug that results in somebody's death

2) It continues to de-stigmaphy the use of illegal drugs encouraging more drug use.

Why don't we have safe rape centers or safe robbery programs too?

I mean, technically researchers already do this to see the effects on people. It could get out of hand real quickly, if taken out of the area.
