
Since presidents love war, should the Constitution be amended to remove the president as commander in chief and turn the military over to the states?


The constitution does say that, very clearly.
You are to have no standing armies and internal and external threats to your democracy are to be dealt with by an organised milita raised and equipped by each state, all of whom are allied and beholden to the others.
But none of you understand nor give a fuck about your constutition you just like the part where you wave flags.

You live in the USA, Adaeva, correct? Perhaps you've noticed it's a drug and industrial military complex?
* The USA makes and exports more guns than any other country.
* Five of the top six weapons manufacturers in the world are US companies, including #1, Lockheed Martin, #2 Boeing and #3 Raytheon
* Pharmaceuticals "exports" are an $80 billion dollar industry, and that's only the drugs MADE here in the USA. That doesn't include US company owned plants making drugs in other countries.
Your meme is adorable in its attempt to pin wars on specific Presidents, some of whom deserve it, but it's a strawman. As WindAtMyBack said, not only can the President NOT declare war, but the real point is, it's one of the USA's top exports. Funny though, when you research it, you won't find "weapons or guns or tanks or missiles" listed as a top export. You'll find "machinery, computers, electrical machinery", and other categories to throw them into.
So to answer, turning the military over to the states is a ridiculously silly idea, but thanks for writing :)
The US president doesn't have the authority to declare war. Only Congress can do that. The only thing a president can do without Congressional approval is when there is an immediate threat that needs to be addressed, when there is no time to consult Congress. In that case the president still needs to inform Congress, give regular updates, and only do it very short term.
For everything else, only Congress can do it. This was basically the result of the war in Vietnam. The War Powers Act clarified what was already in the Constitution. The Constitution clearly states that Congress declares war, not the president. It clarifies that ongoing undeclared wars like Vietnam should not bypass the intention of the Constitution.
That would certainly be a huge improvement. Presidents just get us into needless and expensive wars. In the last 200 years the USA has never been threatened nor attacked unless the USA first committed war crimes against the country. Both Germany and Japan did everything they could to keep the USA out of WW1 and WW2 but President Wilson and FDR wanted us into those wars and committed war crimes such as false flag operations to get us into those wars. WW2 would have never occurred if we had stayed out of WW1
FDR put a blockade on Japan preventing them from getting oil and then ignored every diplomatic attempt from Japan. Furthermore, he knew about the upcoming attack on Hawaii and could have prevented it. He even prevented our military from defending against it.
That wouldn't work, because then only residents of that state would need to be sent to fight. That would never work. Technically, only Congress is allowed to declare war, but I think we should Congressional approval to end send troops.

This is why the Founding Fathers got rid of the Articles of Confederation which lasted only 8 years and replaced them with a federal national government under the US Constitution which has lasted 234 years and counting.
No, The US needs a united military. Having 50 separate entities will weaken our defense and it will be very inefficient. In case of a national emergency we need somebody who can quickly mobilize the military. That is the role of president.
Kennedy didn't take us to war, Nixon got us out of that war, Ford didn't take us to war, Carter didn't take us to war, Reagan didn't and Trump was just about to hand us world peace on a silver platter!

Presidents don't like war, the puppeteers pulling their strings, do. Trump wasn't a puppet, and that's why the left hated him.

You do realize that the president can't declare war, Congress does. President gets emergency powers, but only in crisis and still answers to Congress. Congress consists of representatives of each state and as such already represent their will.
