Why do many people fear the disabled?

Why would they fear them? At most they are afraid to do something wrong or say something insensitive. But most people, including me, deal with disabled people just fine.

It is discrimination really, but do you mean disabled in general or are you on about the physically disabled or the mentally disabled.

It is because they get criminalized such as being creep shame for acting different especially if they stare which some campaigners want classed as sexual harassment, portrayed badly in the media, that is if they are portrayed at all. Also anything to do with mental disability is ignored

No they don't. Almost nobody is afraid of the disabled. The few that do, have a rare phobia

I don't think people do. There's probably an innate worry that anything (even an amputation) might be catching. That might be it.

Because we don't know how to act with you people. We don't know whether to treat you as a cripple or treat you as a normal person, because different cripples have different reactions. My mom opened the door for one of you people and he almost hit her with his cane, because he was offended that she saw him as incompetent. While there are others who get bitchy when we won't give up our seats. I work in customer service and from my personal experience, the majority of you people are more disabled in your head then you are in your legs.
