Why even have a trial over Gwyneth Paltrow's skiing accident?

Accident's happen. I'm sure she felt bad that man got hurt. Sometimes things happen. Why make a big hullabaloo over a trivial accident?

1. Is it a trivial accident? What is the extent of his injuries? Do you know?

2. If you are careless and injure someone by your carelessness, shouldn't you be held responsible for the consequences of your conduct?

3. If we don't hold people responsible for the consequences of their conduct, doesn't that just encourage people to be careless?

4. If she injured this man and he required medical treatment, who should pay for the treatment? If he lost time from work because of his injuries, who should pay for his lost wages?

In an ideal world, there would be no lawsuit... because we all take responsibility for our actions, and skiing has implied risks that one should understand before going on the slope.

But this is not an ideal world, and people sure others when they think they can get money doing it. Gwyneth Paltrow is a celebrity who probably has lots of money, so the man that got hurt (and more probably, his lawyer) is trying to get as much money as they can from her.

I'm surprised there's a trial... most of these situations are settled (quietly) out of court. My guess is that Gwyneth Paltrow is doing this on principal, and I commend her for that. Let's see what the outcome of the trial is.

Because if you injure someone, purposefully or not, you are responsible for the medical bills. She doesn't seem like she feels bad at all, she seems like an indignant self centered hollywood actress. Nothing new under the sun.

That woman is apparently upset because she lost a whole half day of skiing at Park City, Utah. The man is upset because he got a brain injury in this accident.
