There's 8 Billion Of Us. Why Are Some People Concerned About Low Birth Rate?

Our entire economic model is based on there being a positive birthrate. There are plenty of other problems too of course but we have not seen how a country could even function with a stagnant or falling birthrate since that has not happened since basically the dawn of human civilization. Immigration is just a temporary problem since this is a developing global issue and it can only help countries that is only having a small issue with declining birthrates and not those with larger problems.
For example, China is set to lose half its population in like 40 years. How would that even work? How would corporations survive if half their staff disappeared and half their customers did too? How would the government survive if half of their tax payers disappeared?
Then we have demographic problems. Namely that in a declining population you have a proportionally larger elderly population compared to young. Meaning you have fewer young people to work and be productive to support a larger population of elderly that has reduced or no ability to work anymore.
Its theoretically possible to have a social model that works in stagnant or declining populations, but we dont know about them and we are very unlikely to get it right the first try so its basically just asking for economic and social collapse.
This will not solve that at all. Why would you want to employ a highly skilled older worker when the job is probably menial and probably neither benefits from experience nor allows them to use their experience in a meaningful way and simply have to start over to familiarize themselves?
Employing younger workers is almost always worth it simply because the lower pay as well as them having better education on average. You are essentially getting a discount. There is a minority of positions where experience really matters but that is true today just as much as it would be in this hypothetical future so no change there.
Because, people are stupid and so concerned about arbitrary things like race.
Lmao I was about to say because they’re racist.
Admittedly sometimes low birth rates can be symptoms of real problems. But its not a problem in and of itself.
Like America has a low birth rate partially because the new generation hasn’t been able to graduate college with a nest egg pie at home and start a family. So we’re putting that off until later when we have lower, fertility or of already gotten so used to wait for the children that it works out fine for us. Or we can’t afford to have two children just one. Overall, I think that this is for the good because we really need less people but they are interesting problems.
I agree 8 billion seems like too much. It would be good if China and India decrease their population. I’m not saying this because of their race. Both of these two countries have a population of over 1 billion which seems like way too much to me with the world population being 8 billion.

Extinction isn't actually the somewhat short term concern, it's government collapse that is. In other words, if there aren't enough young people working, whom generate the countries wealth by and large, then there won't be enough money to support the population, leading to a governmental collapse. That means no military funding, no funding for schools, law enforcement, etc. Immigrants assist with this problem when it comes to population, but not so much when it comes to wealth generation because of the barriers immigrants often face when coming to this country. This concern, is a concern with the intention of sustaining life as we know it today. And it's a necessary concern because it can easily become a problem that we no longer have enough time to fix.
Russia and China have a lot of children. They want to get rid of LGBT and put women back in the kitchen. Chinese has the most people in the world. The US promotes the LGBT and women's rights. With large population sooner or later the US will run out of money and people to fight against them. Then China and Russia will out populate the US and take away women's rights and ban LGBT. So yes there is a lot of people, but will there be enough people to pump more money into the economies that promote women's and LGBT?
https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nr84FnXScNwYou got me.
People like to play dirty all the time.
That's true.
It'd be truly inhuman to ban womanly rights and LGBT rights (I'm a part of both 😭).
Yes, but that is politics. I know a guy his family used to work in politics and they blackmail his relatives all the time because they work in politics. A guy got tired of LGBT and his relatives got killed, so the guy would get voted in and he banned it.
Once you don't have enough money or power, someone else will come for their spot. It's all politics.
I don't think it's that bad in India.
The worst treatment I've gotten as LGBT person is people talking behind my back, girls keeping me at one arm distance and calling me freak.
India terribly needs feminism though.
For instance, "motherfucker" and "sisterfucker" are the two most popular curses out there and people still joke about female family members getting raped 🤢
Having more old people than young people causes a dangerous demographic shift which leads to economic problems. Young people provide the labor (make the stuff everybody needs), middle aged people do the spending and start businesses innovate, and provide the tax base, old people provide the capital. When our largest demographic the baby boomers go extinct we lose the capital and without the younger people replacing the labor we lose entire industries. We need consistent birth rates. If everywoman produces at least 2.1 babies its fine but if women aren't making the babies we need our economy will go in the shitter. Its economics and people that study this stuff unlike me know exactly what happens when the statistics go the wrong way.
Pretty sure we're actually facing an international problem of low birth rates. If 7 billion of those 8 are too old to work, we still ain't eating.
That said, I think we'll be fine. They just give parents more money per child and suddenly you get another boom.
Countries with decreasing populations are worried. Means less tax dollars. If we weren’t so hung up on culture and “race” we’d accept immigrants from the equator where global warming is most prevalent.
I don't get it either, I for one wonder how many more billions is even managed ahead, LOL 😆😂
agree. I think the issue is more changing social dynamics.
Taiwanese is fighting for their national culture and spirit but they love white. It is strange that taiwanese become white mixed race to support taiwanese spirit.
Lots of countries want to save their cultural identity. If they do not want their population to be replaced by immigrants it's not racism, lol. It's a common sense and biological program
It’s not racist to want your culture to exist.
The problem is that the high IQs are not having enough children and the repulsive low IQs are breeding like rats.
Are you high IQ lol?
This guy is hilarious.
Thank you! Jeez, it not like we'll go extinct anytime soon. Judgement day is not yet upon us.
The low birth rate is in countries that provide retirement benefits. Serfs don't pay much into the grid and are often recipients of free stuff.
Because public pension systems and many economies are dependent on higher fertility rates than the current low ones.
oh you gotta be racist to oppose unregulated immigration into your country. you lefties are dopes.
Earth is literally overpopulated and some people have the audacity to say that 💀
The Earth isn’t overpopulated, lol.
The second richest person on Earth says you're wrong.
@FeelingGroovy That’s why he poured millions into a shot to take care of that. Then got out before the shit hit the fan.
@gorydetails
What?
@FeelingGroovy Bill Gates poured millions into the clot shots and now has sold all his interests now that the damage they’ve caused is starting to come out.
@gorydetails
Billy is nearly as stupid as Joey. The second richest person is Elon. He says we have plenty of space for humans. The problem isn't even food. My uncle has a farm and he's paid to NOT grow crops. Why aren't we burning ethanol in cars, instead of going to electric? It's not a fossil fuel, and it's renewable.
A corrupt government is the real problem.
I have Amazon shares, so yeah... I am concerned
I guess replacement. Like Japan it's the young that has the burden of looking after the old.
As many little kids as I see on a day to day basis, I do not believe this at all
Because they take Malthus seriously- and DON'T extend the same favor to Erasmus.
