Would you rather have a politician or a successful business person for our next president?

It seems the people that have been poisoned by these politicians don't make good presidents. But one's that have a mind for running business and being a very successful business person are more geared to having a successful business as well as a successful president.

This would have to be on a case by case basis.

The president is an executive position who is in fact actually a leader. Therefore, a governor or even a big city mayor is better suited for the role than someone from Congress or the Senate, who are not leaders. Those people are better suited for the vice presidential role, where their primary job is to preside over the Senate. Most VPs who later became president have been lackluster, at best.

This also means that a business executive with experience in middle and upper management in a company with a wide range of ventures would be reasonably well-suited for the role. However, they are often equally or better suited for cabinet or other appointed positions, for various reasons, but most importantly so they can get a feel for how the government actually works (and optimistically avoid sinking into depression in the process). The attrition/exhaustion rate for politicians with business backgrounds is very high, often citing insanity, brazen corruption, and powerlessness.

In 2016 after Trump beat Hillary, he picked up the phone and created 600 American jobs. The jobs were with an air conditioning manufacturer. Bernie laughed at the small amount of jobs Trump created. I don’t believe that Bernie ever created any jobs, and he’s been in government for a half century. And Trump wasn’t even the president when he created those jobs.

So in answer to your question, I ONLY think successful business people should be in politics.

Hillary is famous for saying: “We need comprehensive immigration reform.”

Translation: “I’m just blowing smoke out of my ass, but the Dems love me.”

@exitseven and I'm sure you remember the day ice cream joe cancelled the keystone pipeline and all of those people lost their jobs. Ice cream joe said "These people can get new jobs installing solar panels". The problem us, China makes the parts for them, so they would not be Made in America 🇺🇸.

Somebody that has run a business knows the struggles it entails and how the government can make it even worse. Somebody like Mr McNeil had grown a business by using a Made in USA business model. He is a much better choice over a socialist who just wants to destroy this country.

The principles of running a business do not translate to government. The President is not CEO with ultimate power. On the contrary, Congress calls the shots regarding legislature.

As for "successful"... How many times does a businessman have to file for bankruptcy before he's considered unsuccessful?

I'm by no means defending politicians, but a businessman should at least understand the fundamentals of our government before attempting to be President. Probably won't find that on Twitter.

It all depends on the person if the politician was like Hillary Clinton and the business man was more like that ice cream CEO who stood with Bernie then I'd pick the business man but if the business man was that Amazon CEO and the politician was Bernie Sanders then I'd pick Bernie

Politician (but a good one). Business is completely different from running a country, completely different goals. Countries are not and should not be profit driven. Countries can't "fire" employees (citizens), and can force people to be customers (eg taxpayers). There just isn't much overlap.
