Why would a man or woman hate members of the opposite gender despite knowing that not all men or women are the same?

I'm guessing it involves not being able to relate due to different experiences and facing different double standards and stereotypes and forms of sexism. Also, I think it's human nature that women will tend to take their own gender's side just as men would do the same.

Most of the gender based hatred we see today is a result of years and years of sexist rhetoric from feminists, and lately from feminism's counterpart, MGTOW. Both groups are hate driven rhetoric machines that feed off each other and constantly throw gasoline on the fire of sexism.

It's interesting to see how feminists now see the hate from MGTOWs as one of feminism's primary issues it is fighting against, yet it was feminism itself that gave birth to MGTOW and feeds the beast every day with it's misandry.

Are you sure he hates them? Women operate from a different rulebook then men. All men have to learn this. Some guys adapt and some don't. But that doesn't necessarily mean he hates them.
